Especially when he was being accused of cheating.
Back in 2015, Brady and the New England Patriots were at the heart of the infamous Deflategate scandal.
The quarterback was accused of ordering the deliberate deflation of footballs that were used in the Pats' victory against the Indianapolis Colts during the 2014 AFC Championship Game, en-route to winning Super Bowl XLIX.
Brady denied any wrongdoing, but after a lengthy legal battle, the controversy resulted in him being suspended for the first four games of the 2016 NFL season, while the Patriots were fined $1million and docked two draft picks.

The NFL, ultimately, believed that he was 'generally aware' of the scheme.
But a recent documentary has shed further light on exactly how much the accusations weighed on Brady at the time, with a former teammate describing him as an 'emotional wreck' during a team meeting in which he addressed the scandal.
"When Deflategate happened and Tom was the headliner of the whole situation, he addressed us as a team,” Hall of Famer Darrelle Revis said, during an episode of the Apple TV+ series The Dynasty that aired last year.
“You could tell he was distraught… He said this is something I wouldn’t do. I would not ruin the season for us; the allegations are false.

Not only did Deflategate turn New England's star into an emotional wreck, it also led to a number of rule changes within the NFL.
The most notable developments put in place ahead of the 2015 season regarded the number of footballs prepared for each game, random testing and changes in the oversight of the balls once checked by officials.
There was no change in the properties of the football, and they are still required to be inflated between 12 1/2 and 13 1/2 pounds per square inch (PSI).
Per the NFL rule book, each team is required to supply 24 footballs to the officials locker room - 12 primary and 12 backup - two hours and 30 minutes prior to the game.
Prior to 2015, the home team had to submit 24 footballs, but the visitors only had to submit 12, with an option to supply an additional 12 for use in outdoor stadiums.
The referee also designates two members of his crew to conduct a pregame inspection to make sure all footballs meet the required specifications.

Before the change, the referee was the sole judge.
From 2015, officials started to number the balls 1-12, and measured the PSI to record it for each numbered ball.
Any game ball within the allowable range of 12.5 to 13.5 PSI is approved and the PSI level will not be altered.
Any ball determined to be over 13.5 PSI or under 12.5 PSI will either be deflated or inflated to 13.0 PSI.

On top of the pre-game changes, air pressure spot-checks can also be conducted during halftime of games.
While being accused of cheating left Brady emotional at the time, he has since put an end to Deflategate on his own terms, by cracking jokes about it.
"We've got so many football greats here tonight, but where's Roger Goodell?" Brady asked with some mischief in his voice during his Netflix roast last year.

"Remember Deflategate? The NFL spent 20 million dollars and found that it was 'more probable than not' that I was 'generally aware' that someone may have deflated my footballs.
"You could've just given me the $20m and I would've just told you I did it."
