'He’s a narcissist': Sebastian Stan is right about Donald Trump | The Mary Sue
Sebastian Stan played Donald Trump and, despite what the President thinks, the 'Thunderbolts*' actor knows him well.
When it comes to celebrities that fans love to see, Sebastian Stan is high up on the list. And the Oscar-nominee is set to star in Thunderbolts*, the latest Marvel film to include Bucky Barnes. Don’t worry though, he’s still taking on Donald Trump when he can.

Stan played a young Donald Trump in the film The Apprentice that highlighted Trump’s rise to wealth and fame and showed the dark side of the President. Now, in an interview with Vanity Fair, Stan spoke about his thoughts on Trump and whether or not the President has seen The Apprentice. We know that Trump at least knows about it.
At the time of the film’s release, Trump posted his thoughts on Truth Social and said the film was “a cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job,” and went on to call The Apprentice “So sad that HUMAN SCUM, like the people involved in this hopefully unsuccessful enterprise, are allowed to say and do whatever they want.”
So we don’t know if Trump has seen the film or not but Sebastian Stan has his own thoughts on the matter. When asked if he thought Trump had seen The Apprentice, Stan was blunt in his response. “I would put money down he’s seen it 100 [explictive] times, of course, because he’s a narcissist,” Stan told the publication. “And I bet you there’s certain things he likes about it.” When pressed about what those “things” could be, Stand joked “How he looked.”
Donald Trump is someone that fully believes in the idea that all press is good press and you cannot tell me otherwise. He loves to look at what people think about him and see what they have to say and a movie like The Apprentice is perfect for him.

To be clear, The Apprentice does not pain Trump in a positive light. It shows him sexually assaulting his ex-wife, the late Ivana Trump. We get to see how Roy Cohn (played by Jeremy Strong) and Trump got close and how their relationship is what allowed Trump to become the man he is today. No one is painted in a positive light in this movie.
But, as Stan pointed out, Trump is the kind of man who would watch a movie about himself, regardless of the subject matter. Think about it. He loves to talk about himself, share things about himself, and even if a movie like The Apprentice makes him seem more like a monster to the rest of us, that is the kind of man that I don’t think cares. He publicly says something about it and then looked at Stan playing him and probably thinks he’s hot.
The point of this is that Stan knows exactly the kind of man Trump is, which is what made his performance so good. He knows what buttons to tick and I am sure if Trump had Letterboxd, he’d have logged The Apprentice every day.
