Former Met Police detective Peter Bleksley has launched a blistering rant on GB News after it was revealed how much West Yorkshire Police is spending on diversity hires and training.

Bleksley joined Martin Daubney to lament the eye-watering cost which he said “has got to stop”.

It comes as a Freedom of Information (FOI) request laid bare the extent of the force’s spend on equality and diversity posts.

Staff costs total a whopping £969,188 with a Head of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion earning a staggering £91,536.

Peter Bleksley said the insistence of spending on diversity is 'utter tripe'

With an additional payment to an external provider of equality and diversity training courses, the grand total of diversity spend was totalled at £1,330,188.

A furious Bleksley unleashed an impassioned rant on GB News.

“Diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) policies pollute all our public services, no matter what they may be. I would be less angered about this if West Yorkshire Police were, number one, spending less money”, he said.

“And number two, if they were using so fewer police officers. There’s an inspector, there’s a sergeant, there’s six PCs that are all in on way, shape or form DEI ambassadors.

“What on earth are they doing? I very much doubt they’re arresting people, charging people, taking them to court and seeing them convicted of crime. It’s a nonsense. It has got to stop.”

Bleksley said victims of crime across Britain are ultimately the biggest losers as police forces prioritise “nonsense” initiatives instead of actually tackling crime.

“It says here the DEI team ensures West Yorkshire Police is a fair and equitable organisation for its residents and visitors to the region.

“Imagine if you want to go on a short break to see where Wuthering Heights was inspired by. I’m sure you’re going to think, ‘is this an equality type of place? Can I rely upon it?

“It’s utter tripe and nonsense. What do these departments do? They don’t arrest people. They don’t make anything. They don’t sell anything.”

In a statement, West Yorkshire Police told GB News: “We are dedicated to building a workforce that reflects the diverse communities it serves and investing in resources for better outcomes for all.

“Diversity, Equality and Inclusion is central to the Police and Crime Plan, essential for fostering trust, confidence, and public safety.

“This aligns with our Public Sector Equality Duty and equality objectives.”
