Ted Lasso Season 4 is officially happening. The Apple TV+ hit last left the pitch in 2023, but star Jason Sudeikis confirmed he’ll be back to play the American soccer coach once more.
And while Sudekis offered very little in the way of what Ted Lasso Season 4 is about, the details he did share come straight from his real life. Sudeikis is ready to take his advocacy for women’s sports to television, as well as his love for Kansas City.
Brett Goldstein, Jason Sudeikis, and Nick Mohammed in ‘Ted Lasso’ | AppleTed Lasso Season 3 billed itself as the final season of the comedy/drama series. All was right in Richmond as Coach Beard, Roy Kent, and Nate Shelley were ready to lead the Greyhounds into a new Premier League season after Ted returned home.
But Apple wasn’t exactly ready to blow the final whistle. The streaming service held an option to bring back actors such as Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham. Rumors circulated in 2023 that Ted Lasso would return, be it a new season or a spinoff.
On the March 14, 2025, episode of the New Heights podcast, Jason Sudeikis confirmed more Ted Lasso was on the way. He also shared some insight on the season 4 plan for Ted.
“Ted’s coaching, yeah, a women’s team,” he told co-hosts Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce. When asked if Ted would be back in the U.S., Sudeikis said that was “too many questions” and declined to offer further plot points.
However, a report from Deadline stated Ted Lasso Season 4 is expected to film in Kansas City, Missouri for part of the season before moving back to the U.K. That would suggest at least a portion of Ted’s season 4 storyline involves him staying in the States, where the show left off in season 3.
As the co-creator and star of Apple TV+’s hit series Ted Lasso, Jason Sudeikis has seamlessly integrated support for women’s soccer into the show’s storyline. The third season finale notably features Keeley presenting Rebecca with a proposal to create an AFC Richmond women’s team, reinforcing the show’s emphasis on gender inclusivity and equal opportunities in the sport.
By setting up Ted to coach a women’s team, Sudeikis is letting art imitate life. Sudeikis has actively supported professional women’s soccer teams, including the U.S. Women’s National Team and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). He has appeared at events advocating for equal pay and better conditions for female athletes, aligning himself with some of the most influential voices in the movement, including Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan.
In 2022, he participated in the NWSL championship celebrations and publicly praised the league’s progress. He has also worked with initiatives like the Women’s Sports Foundation to amplify the need for increased investment in women’s athletics at all levels
Sudeikis has also been a visible supporter of women’s basketball, frequently attending WNBA games and using his wardrobe to promote women’s sports. He has been spotted wearing shirts and hoodies featuring WNBA teams and slogans advocating for gender equality in athletics, further demonstrating his commitment to the cause. Now, he’s ready to take it a step further as Ted Lasso echoes the same sentiments.
Jason Sudeikis has deep ties to Kansas City, Missouri, where he was raised. A proud supporter of his hometown, he frequently champions Kansas City’s sports teams, including the Chiefs, Royals, and the NWSL’s Kansas City Current.
Sudeikis has also contributed to local charities and events, emphasizing his commitment to the community. His annual Big Slick charity brings dozens of celebrities to Kansas City each year to raise money in the fight against pediatric cancer.
Ted Lasso features numerous Kansas City references, showcasing his enduring connection to the city. And if reports are correct, Kansas City will be front and center for part of Ted Lasso Season 4.
As women’s sports continue to gain traction globally, Sudeikis remains a key supporter, using his humor, platform, and passion to champion the cause. With his ongoing advocacy, the fight for equality in sports has an influential and charismatic ally who isn’t afraid to put his voice—and his actions—behind the movement.
The show is officially set to return for a fourth season.
