'A Minecraft Movie' Warner Bros
This past weekend, following a Q1 when the industry fretted that moviegoers forgot about going to the movies, Warner Bros. and Legendary revived the global and domestic box office with the Jared Hess directed A Minecraft Movie with a $163M U.S./Canada opening, $150.7M abroad and $313.7M worldwide.
Here are all the box office records that were broken:
Domestic
Biggest Opening YTD (as of April 7, 2025), ahead of Captain America: Brave New World‘s ($88.8M).
Record Opening for a Movie Based on a Videogame, outstripping Super Mario Bros Movie‘s 3-day of $146.3M back in 2023.
