‘The Voice’ Releases Heartfelt Statement After Finalist’s Death
With former contestant Ryan Whyte Maloney passing away at 44 years old, 'The Voice' took a moment to honor the singer.
Black in February 2014, the sixth season of the hit show The Voice aired. With stars like Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira, and Usher filling the chairs, contestants hoped to win them over with their voices. And among the contestants was Ryan Whyte Maloney. Finding his way to Shelton’s team, Maloney had a great run on the show, making it through to the top five finalists. Although Josh Kaufman won the season, Maloney returned to perform during the season finale. And while continuing to explore a career in music, the singer sadly took his own life. On Tuesday, January 28th, a medical examiner in Las Vegas announced that Maloney died by suicide. Throughout his time in the spotlight, the singer went far beyond The Voice as he recorded songs like “Sleepwalk” and “Don’t Put Me in a Box.” In 2024, he continued to perform in Las Vegas thanks to Shelton’s venue Ole Red. Maloney was even a regular at the venue as he also took the stage with acts like Shakira, Usher, Ed Sheeran, Morgan Wallen, and even Tim McGraw.
Taking a moment to remember the former contestant and singer, The Voice shared on Twitter, “Ryan Whyte Maloney will always be in our hearts and minds. He was part of The Voice family, and he will be missed.”
