"Everyone Gasped": Stranger Things' Vecna Star Fell During Season 4's Most Intense Scene, But The Crew Was Concerned About Something Else
Bower reveals a BTS mishap.
Despite it becoming an iconic pop culture moment, Stranger Things star Jamie Campbell Bower revealed that one season 4 moment saw him suffer an embarrassing on-set mishap. Making his debut in the new episodes released in 2022, Bower's Vecna emerged from the shadows as the ringleader behind every incident involving the Upside Down. While Stranger Things' cast of heroes was able to pull off a pyrrhic victory, Bower is confirmed to reprise the role in season 5.
As Bower looked back on his career during a panel at Megacon Orlando that Screen Rant attended, the star revealed how season 4's standout moment also saw him suffer one of his most embarrassing accidents during production. In the scene where Vecna attempts to claim Max's (Sadie Sink) and use her as another key to bridge the two worlds, Bower states that he suffered an unfortunate fall. When Max pulls the vine from Vecna's neck, he shared that he slipped on a wet patch on the floor:
I actually fell over when we were shooting that scene. Yeah, there's a bit when she pulls out the vine. Before she starts running, she pulls out the vine from Vecna's neck, and it was a bit wet on the floor, and I fell over, and everyone gasped.
While Bower assumed that the crew would be concerned about what happened to him, their worries were focused on the potential damage to make-up and costuming. Check out Bower's reflection below:
So, I was like, oh, they feel really bad for me, and they just don't. They feel really worried about how expensive the make-up was.
Did Bower's Accident Impact Stranger Things Season 4's Most Standout SceneMax's Escape Is A Standout Motion For The Franchise
Despite Bower's concerns, it is clear from the audience's reactions to season 4 that the on-set mishap didn't impact the execution of the scene. Set to Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill," Max's escape is a culmination of her struggle throughout the first half of season 4, as she overcomes her self-isolation and grief with the help of her friends. In a season where the core cast is more divided than ever, Max's win over the mysterious villain is a much-needed glimmer of hope.
