Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith is coming back to cinemas to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary later this year.

The third film in the saga’s prequel trilogy saw Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) complete his fall to the dark side, as the epic conclusion to the Clone Wars established the character of Darth Vader and the dominance of the evil Galactic Empire.

A press release on the Star Wars official website read: “To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the premiere of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, the final film in the prequel trilogy, Episode III will be re-released in theatres on April 25, 2025, running in select U.S. theatres and international territories for one week only. Screenings will be available in several formats, including, for the first time, 4DX.”

NME contacted Disney with regards to a UK release, who confirmed that the film will show in British cinemas too, with details still being finalised.

The released continued: “From the exhilarating battles over the planet of Coruscant to the fiery volcanic high grounds of Mustafar, relive this pivotal chapter in the Skywalker saga; the 4DX experience features high-tech motion chairs that sync with over 21 effects, all designed to complement the narrative of the film.”

A new poster for the film has also been designed by graphic artist Matt Ferguson, shared on the official Star Wars social media accounts.

While the film received a mixed response from fans at the time, the Prequel Trilogy as a whole has been re-evaluated over the years, with the performances of Christensen and Ewan McGregor (as Obi-Wan Kenobi) in particular being singled out for praise. Both actors returned to their roles for the spin-off series Obi-Wan Kenobi, while Christensen played Anakin Skywalker in flashback for the series Ahsoka.

Last year, Christensen revealed that during the auditioning process for the films, he feared he had lost the part to Leonardo DiCaprio.
