Adolescence is airing on Netflix and the series is told through an ambitious real-time, one-shot sequence. The Miller family's lives are turned upside down when son Jamie is arrested for the murder of a teenage girl at his school.
Actor Stephen Graham co-wrote the series in his first outing as a writer alongside Jack Thorne. The drama is also produced by Stephenās own company, Matriarch. He said of the show: "We could have made a drama about gangs and knife crime, or about a kid whose mother is an alcoholic, or whose father is a violent abuser.
"Instead, we wanted you to look at this family and think, āMy God. This could be happening to us!ā And whatās happening here is an ordinary familyās worst nightmare.ā The series is directed by Philip Barantini, who reunited with Stephen after their award-winning success in both the movie short and TV show, Boiling Point.
The series is shot in the same unique, continuous style of filming - the one shot. The actors endured weeks of rehearsals with Philip in order to get a perfect performance on the day of filming.

Owen Cooper as Jamie Miller in AdolescenceEddie Miller - Stephen GrahamStephen Graham is a 51-year-old British actor from Lancashire who launched his career in Snatch and Gangs of New York.
His breakthrough role was as Andrew "Combo" Gascoigne in the film This Is England.
The award-winning actor was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2023 New Year Honours for services to drama, which he dedicated to his mother, who died in 2022.
He is married to actress and producer Hannah Walters and they have two children together.
DI Luke Bascombe - Ashley WaltersAshley Walters is a 42-year-old British actor and rapper rose to fame as a member of the UK garage group So Solid Crew.
After the band split in the early 2000s, he released a solo studio album.
On TV he is mostly recognised for his role as drug dealer Dushane in hit British crime drama Top Boy.
He has four children with his ex-partner and currently lives with his wife, Danielle Walters, and their two children in Herne Bay, Kent.
His wife Danielle is an actress who has starred in Chewing Gum, Top Boy and EastEnders.
Briony Ariston - Erin DohertyErin Doherty is a 32-year-old British actress known for playing a young Princess Anne in The Crown.
Viewers may also recognise her as Becky in the drama Chloe and Clare in Reawakening.
In her school days she was a talented footballer and was scouted by Chelsea Women, but when she reached the age where she had to commit to either football or acting, she chose the latter.
Erin Doherty as Briony AristonJamie Miller - Owen CooperOwen Cooper makes his on-screen debut in Adolescence, having trained with The Drama Mob for the past two years.
He had sent a tape in before being offered an audition in Manchester before landing his first professional role.
Currently at school, his favourite subjects are German and PE. Aged 15, he has two older brothers - Ollie who is 20 and Connor who is 30.
On his reaction to landing the role, he said: "Well I was there with my mum and at that point there was a chance that I could play the role of Ryan [Jamie's friend].
"So when we sat down that was what we were expecting to hear. So when it was the role of Jamie I was like, āWhat?ā Iād been asleep in the car before we arrived and Iād only just woken up.
"I was on a different planet and just thought, āThis is mad!ā"
Mandy Miller - Christine TermarcoChristine Termarco is a British actress who started her career in The Leaving of Liverpool.
Her other credits include Waterloo Road, Casualty and Little Boy Blue.
Ashley Walters as DI BascombeLisa Miller - AmƩlie PeaseAmƩlie Pease appears to be making her acting debut in Adolescence.
She has been a part of the Young Performers division at Articulate Agency.
DS Misha Frank - Faye MarsayFaye Marsay is a 38-year-old British actress known for her roles as Anne Neville in The White Queen and Candice in Fresh Meat.
