Countless celebrities took part in yesterday’s London Marathon, with everyone from Adele Roberts to Alexandra Burke spotted crossing the finish line of the 26.2 mile run. Every year marathon runners inspire countless people to lace up their trainers and start running, and if you’re just getting started or wanting to take your training up a notch, the right equipment is a must.
Running vests have become one of the most popular kit additions, giving runners a place to keep things like water, hydration gels and even their phone and keys. Even if you’re not planning on running great distances, a vest is a great option for keeping your belongings safe and secure whilst you enjoy your run.

If you’re thinking about adding one to your running kit, we’ve tracked down some of the celeb-approved picks to help you make the right choice. Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts has been spotted wearing the Wellwise Running Vest Backpack, £17.39, during her training for countless marathons.
Ideal for keeping your essentials to hand, it comes with a 1.5litre water bladder, which lets you quickly take a sip and top up your hydration at any point during your run. It’s also lightweight and super stretchy so it doesn't restrict you or weigh you down, with space to store your phone so you always have it to hand.
One Amazon reviewer praised: “This is a very light weight running backpack with 1.5l bladder. It's well made and has a range of pockets with draw strings or zips, a suitably sized main compartment for the bladder, and plenty of straps and clips to ensure it stays in place. It's easy to adjust into a comfortable fit. I'd say it works better on smaller runners, it wouldn't be so good on someone particularly large, but is ideal for women or slimmer men.
“The bladder is a fairly standard affair with bit valve and reasonable length tube. The quality of both the pack and bladder is very good. The weight of the backpack is quite a surprise, if just running with keys and a couple of gels it's hardly noticeable.”
One reviewer did mention, however: ”Initially loved this when it arrived, used for the first time today. Unfortunately one zip broke and an attachment for the water bottle came apart.”
Some marathons, however, don’t allow the bladder-style vests, which forces you to carry your water bottles by hand. Instead, singer Alexandra Burke wore the Ultra Vest 5L from On during the London Marathon, which offers secure places to store your bottles without having them in your hands.
Sadly Alexandra’s exact vest is currently sold out almost everywhere, with only the XL size currently available. However this Kiprun 5L Vest is a great alternative, and is currently on sale down from £49.99 to £39.99.
It has 10 different pockets which gives you plenty of space to store all your running essentials. With slots for two water bottles at the front which allow you to access them without removing them, the vest also has zipped and velcro pockets to keep things safe.
Reviewers have highly praised it, writing: “This is the best vest I've ever owned. It's light and breathable, and doesn't ruin shirts.”

Another agreed: “Great vest. Holds everything you need for training or competition. You don't feel it while running, it's so light.” However one did mention: “For a slim-built man, the M-L is not at all suitable. Not very comfortable to run in.”
