Alison Hammond breaks down in tears as This Morning legend leaves after 10 years
This Morning's editor Martin Frizell is leaving the show today after a decade and presenter Alison Hammond was in floods of tears as she thanked him for all his support
During a tearful segment on This Morning, Alison Hammond bid an emotional farewell to the show's departing editor, Martin Frizell, who's been with the ITV programme for a decade. Alison and co-host Josie Gibson urged Martin to join them on the sofa for a heartfelt tribute.
The duo shared how pivotal Martin had been in their careers; Alison's voice trembled as she noted, "He's the one that took a chance on us, transforming mine and Josie's careers," She expressed her gratitude by stating, "It's an incredible opportunity and we just want to say thank you very much. We love you." Alison declared how much he meant to the team: "On behalf of the team on This Morning we think you are incredible and we are so sad to see you go," and was followed by Josie appreciating Martin's faith in her abilities: "I just want to say, thank you so much because you believed in me when I didn't even believe in myself and you grew me as a presenter and I just can't thank you enough."

Martin humbly responded: "If you were rubbish, you wouldn't be on telly," assuring them, "You're very good. It has been a great ride and a fantastic time."
Josie Gibson shared a heartfelt moment on the show as she announced the departure of their beloved editor, Martin, calling it a "very sad day", reports the Mirror. She revealed, "Today is a very special day, and a very sad day for us, because our editor, Martin, it's his last day," and mentioned that he was in charge of the jukebox that day.
Alison chimed in with praise for Martin's music choice as Shania Twain's hit Man! I Feel Like A Woman! played, saying, "He's got quite good taste, our editor," Josie playfully responded, "He has got good taste. Well, he employs us!" to which Alison agreed, "Very true! Good point, babe, good point."

Martin had previously announced his intention to leave the series back in November 2024, at the age of 66, to focus more time on his wife, TV journalist Fiona Phillips, following her Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2022.
He expressed his need to prioritise family, stating, "Next year I'm expecting my family priorities to change, so I need to free up time for them. I love my team at ITV and will miss them and the thrill of live telly, but it's an always on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week commitment, and I won't be able to do both," Reflecting on his career, he added, "It's been a privilege to lead truly great presenters and producers, between us we've turned out more than six thousand hours of live topical telly, that's around 20,000 items.
"Whilst the gongs are always nice, I'm most proud of the change we made to so many lives, even saving a fair few with our campaigns on anti-suicide, menopause, testicular cancer and 'how-to' items. This juggernaut is the toughest test for any broadcast journalist."
