Amanda Holden shares 'guilt' and 'most important' part of marriage

Amanda Holden admits she sometimes feels “guilty” when she leaves daughters Lexi and Hollie at home alone.
The 54-year-old acknowledges the importance of spending time with husband Chris Hughes. She says the couple, who began dating in 2004, like to have a date night once a week whenever she’s working away.
This means leaving daughters Lexi, 19, and Hollie, 13, at home. Amanda says she used to feel bad about it, until a friend stressed the importance of working on her marriage.
Article continues belowSpeaking to The Sun’s Fabulous magazine, she said: “I used to feel so guilty about leaving the children when they were young, but a friend of mine said: 'But you're investing in your relationship, therefore you are investing in your children.' The most important thing for them is to have two parents that love each other.
“When the children completely leave home, Chris and I will miss them, but I think Chris is quite excited about them both going so he gets me to himself!"
Amanda explained she “seldom” gets dates with Chris, who she married in 2008. Although she says the couple go on holidays together, and like to have dates in London, where they have an apartment, when she is working.
Television presenter Amanda has recently teamed up with Married at First Sight dating expert Paul Brunson with Netflix’s Cheat: Unfinished Business. The show will see eight former couples reunite as they tackle one partner’s infidelity in the hope they can move on, either together or apart.
Amanda says she “really listened” as Paul talked the couples through their problems. She even decided to go through some of Paul’s relationship exercises with Chris when he flew out to Majorca with Hollie and Lexi.
The Britain’s Got Talent judge’s relationship was even praised by dating guru Paul. She added: “Paul said: 'I love your relationship with your husband and your children. I can see how close you are.
“I can see Chris is like your best friend. You tell him everything, you include him in everything. I've learned from you.’”
Article continues belowAmanda revealed recently that Paul gave her one piece of advice she thought was somewhat controversial. The expert told Amanda she had to “put her husband first” with her daughters “coming second”.
Speaking to MailOnline she said: “That is an unusual thing to hear. I heard that from Paul, and I was like, God, I have to prioritise my husband.
“I think everyone gets wrapped up with their children and their schedules and all the drama around your children when they're growing up. But you have to remember that you and your husband were there together first.”
