Anitta Stars in Both Sides of a Love Story for New Single 'Romeo'
Anitta released her latest single and music video 'Romeo,' the Brazilian singer's first track of 2025 following last year's album 'Funk Generation.'
Double Duty
The track is her first new music of 2025, following last year's album Funk Generation
Anitta is back. The Brazilian singer dropped her first song of the year, sharing the new single âRomeoâ and an accompanying music video on Thursday.
The artist starts the video looking like an angel, complete with a giant set of wings as she sits on a bed. She alternates between the heavenly look and wearing shining armor throughout the video, playing both roles in the love song. The track and its video are both romantic and provocative, with Anitta singing in Spanish that âtoday youâre going to be mine. I didnât say maybe.â
When discussing âRomeoâ with Elle, Anitta said, âI think people are expecting Juliet to be someone [else] or a feature, but in reality, Juliet is Larissa â itâs me, my true self, the one inside that nobody sees. So people are going to see the two versions of me in the music video, which is the creator and the creature, and I think thatâs a really beautiful concept and an extension of all the work that Iâm doing.â
When asked if this was the start of a new album, Anitta replied, âYes. Thatâs the idea of the concept of [this] whole new moment of my life and my career. ⊠I have another side that I didnât have the courage to show until now.â
The new song follows last yearâs Funk Generation, her first album with Republic Records after a very messy breakup with her former label Warner Records in 2023. âMy love, if I had a fine to pay, I would have already auctioned off my organs, no matter how expensive it was to get out,â Anitta told one fan on Twitter at the time.
Anitta is expected to play at Coachella in April, her first time back at the festival after an iconic performance in the desert back in 2022.
The star has more than just music on the way, too. Netflix announced earlier this year that the streaming service will release the documentary Larissa: The Other Side of Anitta later this year. According to a release from the filmâs announcement, the documentary âfollows her journey of self-discovery as she faces physical and emotional challenges that lead her to rethink her priorities in life and career.â
