Emma Raducanu has parted ways with coach Nick Cavaday due to health reasons, potentially paving the way for a collaboration with Andy Murray after Novak Djokovic's Australian Open retirement stirred speculation. Murray, who retired following the Paris Olympics last year, is currently without a clear path ahead.

The 22 year old British sensation, who made headlines with her US Open victory, suffered an early exit at the hands of Iga Swiatek in Melbourne and has received a further setback while prepping for a tournament in Singapore, as Cavaday announced his decision to step back. With Murray and Djokovic's joint future yet to be decided, it’s inevitable that connections will be drawn between Murray and compatriot Raducanu.

Mutual respect and past positive comments from both parties suggest the possibility of them working together. Now, Raducanu begins her search for a seventh full-time coach since 2021 after Cavaday's departure, who had a 14-month tenure with her.

On stepping down, Cavaday stated: "I am very happy to have been able to work with Emma over the last 14 months," adding, "At this moment in time, it's important for me to spend some more time at home and prioritise getting back to full health, which is hard to do with the extensive calendar."

This development is particularly critical as Murray's current charge, Novak Djokovic, has just endured a muscle injury that forced him to retire from his semi-final at the Rod Laver Arena against Alexander Zverev after one set. The injury complicates the already tentative coaching dynamic between Djokovic and Murray, which was due for reassessment post-Australian Open, reports the Express.

Now, speculation mounts on whether Djokovic will step onto the court again, a concern he acknowledged, saying: "I don't know. There is a chance," when quizzed on if it was his final appearance in the tournament. "Who knows? I'll just have to see how the season goes. I want to keep going. But whether I'm going to have a revised schedule or not for next year, I'm not sure."

Following the withdrawal, Murray also conceded the need for an in-depth conversation about what lies ahead.

"Me and Novak agreed that after the tournament we would speak. We'll do that," confirmed Murray, whilst Djokovic remarked: "I'll definitely have a chat with Andy and thank him for being here with me. You know, give him my feedback, which is, of course, positive, and see how he feels and we make the next step."

Should Djokovic part ways with Murray, the prospect of him teaming up with Raducanu seems entirely plausible, especially considering past comments. Speaking to Tennis Channel about who he'd like to coach post-retirement, Murray had said: "Female player - Emma Raducanu. Male player - between [Carlos] Alcaraz, [Stefanos] Tsitsipas and [Jack] Draper."

His willingness to coach Raducanu is clear, and his admiration for her was further highlighted following her remarkable US Open win in 2021.

"It was incredible what she did there," Murray acknowledged, adding, "I think for a lot of the people involved in British tennis, we knew she was extremely good."

Tensions did surface last July when Raducanu withdrew from their mixed doubles match at Wimbledon due to a stiff wrist, leading to significant criticism. Judy Murray, Andy's mother, concurred with TV host Marcus Buckland's "astonishing" remark on social media platform X, replying: "Yes, astonishing."

However, any ill feelings were swiftly addressed as Raducanu reached out to Murray with an apologetic message, praising his influence and confirming their mutual respect.

She recently shared: "Afterwards, I sent him a long message basically apologising if I caused any trouble."

Raducanu has openly expressed her reluctance to create any tension with Murray, a player she has always admired. "That's definitely the last thing I want," Raducanu admitted.

She reached out to him after a potential misunderstanding, saying, "He's someone that I've grown up looking up to and I don't want any bad blood or harsh feelings with him. I sent him a long message, and he took it really well and responded saying he was disappointed, but he understood."

As the dust settles on this episode, speculation continues about whether Murray will part ways with Djokovic and if he and Raducanu see a mutual benefit in teaming up.
