Anya Taylor-Joy Video Captures Her Wide-Eyed Reaction To Learning Sigourney Weaver Wants Her In James Cameronâs Avatar Franchise
Sigourney Weaver stars in the Avatar movies.
After her The Gorge co-star Sigourney Weaver pitched that Anya Taylor-Joy should join the Avatar franchise, Taylor-Joy gave a promising reaction. She has so far starred in iconic franchises like Mad Max, Dune, and X-Men, delivering solid performances in fitting roles that have been well-received. For Mad Max, she lent her talents to portray a younger version of Furiosa, the Fury Road character previously played by Charlize Theron. For Dune: Part Two, she had a brief appearance as Alia Atreides, the sister of Paul (Timothée Chalamet), and may reprise the role in Denis Villeneuve's potential follow-up movie adapting Dune Messiah.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, while promoting her new Apple TV+ monster movie The Gorge, which has opened to generally positive reviews, Taylor-Joy responded to Weaver's blessing and suggestion that she join the Avatar franchise. "Dead. Dead," Taylor-Joy replied, before revealing that it's one of her ambitions to join the franchise and that she watched the original movie eight times in a row after a party. Read her full comment and watch the full clip below:
Dead. Dead. It is like my dream to be Na'vi. I watched that movie like eight times in a row once. I was sad. It was after a party, it was the perfect thing.
What This Would Mean For The Avatar FranchiseAnya Taylor-Joy's Experience With Big Franchises Makes Her A Good Fit
Taylor-Joy is no stranger to well-known franchises, and her involvement usually elicits a strong positive response from fans. While she was only in Dune: Part Two as Alia for a few seconds, her involvement, which was effectively kept under wraps until shortly before the film's premiere, caused ample excitement among Dune fans familiar with her character. As for her portrayal of the titular character in Furiosa: Mad Max Saga, her high-octane performance ended up being the highlight of the prequel, a doubly impressive feat considering how beloved Theron's version of the character is among Mad Max: Fury Road fans.

From her early career to her lead roles in the 2020s, all Anya Taylor-Joy movies showcase her tremendous talent, from the worst to the best.
Adding her to the Avatar franchise's cast could garner the same reactions and results, as she's proven her chameleon-like ability to seamlessly fit into legendary franchises. It may be too late to join the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is due on December 19, but, considering how many sequels James Cameron has planned, there is a lot of room for the opportunity. With her interest and Weaver's support, the prospect isn't entirely out of the cards.
Where Could Anya Taylor-Joy Fit In The Avatar Franchise? There Are Ample Opportunities For Her To Appear
Although the cast of the James Cameron franchise is already expansive, he is far from finished exploring the world of Pandora. In fact, there are 20 Na'vi clans in Avatar, very few of which have been explored in detail. Taylor-Joy's character could potentially be a member of one of these tribes, an as-yet unseen character from a pre-existing tribe, or even a grown-up version of a younger character who has already been shown, like Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri's (Zoe Saldaña) youngest child Tuktirey "Tuk" te Suli Neytiri'ite (Trinity Bliss), who was eight years old during The Way of Water.
In addition to Tuk, Jake and Neytiri have two Na'vi sons, Neteyam (Jamie Flatters) and Lo'ak (Britain Dalton), an adopted teenage Na'vi daughter, Kiri (Sigourney Weaver), and an adopted human son, Miles "Spider" Socorro (Jack Champion).
There are quite a few upcoming Avatar movies that could accomodate Taylor-Joy as a new character or stepping into a familiar role. After Fire and Ash, the untitled Avatar 4 is set to debut in theaters on December 21, 2029. A fifth movie has also been announced and is in development, with a release date set for December 19, 2031. The franchise's longevity beyond these movies also seems assured in spite of their huge budgets, as both the original movie and its first sequel, The Way of Water, are among the Top 3 highest-grossing movies of all time worldwide.
Our Take On Anya Taylor-Joy's Interest In Joining The Avatar FranchiseShe'd Fit Right In With The Already Talented Cast
Taylor-Joy would be an interesting casting choice. After hearing the proposition and her interest in the franchise, I want to see it happen. Outside of her experience with big franchises, Taylor-Joy's sheer Emmy-nominated talent would be a reasonable addition to the already impressive cast of the franchise, which includes Weaver, Kate Winslet, Zoe Saldaña, and Cliff Curtis. Fans of Taylor-Joy might be jarred by seeing her in a CGI-heavy role that might make her almost unrecognizable, but, as proven by the characters in previous Avatar films, Cameron and his team should be able to capture the nuances of her performance.
Either way, the prospect of Taylor-Joy joining the Avatar franchise in any shape or form would be an exciting experience for her, her fans, and fans of the franchise.
It would also be a great world for Taylor-Joy to sink her teeth into, as the strongest element of the Avatar franchise is its fleshed-out world-building. Her fierce personality would have been a perfect fit for Avatar: Fire and Ash, but seeing her in a more harmonious role in the planned sequel featuring a peaceful air-based clan would also be interesting. Either way, the prospect of Taylor-Joy joining the Avatar franchise in any shape or form would be an exciting experience for her, her fans, and fans of the franchise.
