Ariana Grande Addresses Fans Theory That She’s “Secretly Married” to ‘Wicked’ Co-Star
Ariana Grande breaks the silence about the rumors of her and 'Wicked' co-star, Cynthia Erivo, being "Secretly Married."
Thanks to their Oscar-nominated box office hit, Wicked, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have been on a lengthy media cycle. During these appearances, Grande and Erivo’s friendship has been broadcasted to the entire world and it is evident the two have formed quite a bond. However, this positive friendship has created some negative speculation.
The negative speculation in question is the conspiracy theory that Grande and Erivo are actually married. Consequently, fans have created some sexually explicit art and perpetuated the rumor across the internet. Although, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Grande debunked the bizarre theory.
In the interview, Grande addressed the elephant in the room by stating, “People think we’re secretly married.” Subsequently, Grande went on to divulge that she has seen some explicit drawings of her and Orivio’s characters. She told THR, “I wish I could unsee some things.” “I mean, wow, I had a feeling, but I didn’t know it would be on this scale or this graphic,” added Ariana Grande.
Both Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are in relationships, thus, that is the clear evidence indicating the falsehood of this theory. Erivo currently dates actress and producer, Lena Waithe. The two have dated since at least 2020 and made their relationship public in 2022. Regarding Grande’s relationship status, the pop singer has reportedly been seeing her Wicked co-star, Ethan Slater, since 2023, per Billboard.
Regardless of these truths, the vulgar and intrusive nature of this fan theory has still left Ariana Grande with quite a load. When speaking with THR, she said that dealing with the rumors will “never be unpainful.” “But also, I walk with the awareness that I’m an artist and this is a path that I’ve chosen” and “I just try to protect myself so that I never start to resent the art,” she concluded.
Aside from the hearsay, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Orivio are gearing up for the 2025 Academy Awards, as the film received 10 nominations. Orivio is up for Best Actress and Grande for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
