Ariana Grande Tackles Her Biggest Musical Challenge Yet: 'That Was Terrifying'
Ariana Grande proves yet again that she can sing anything. Check out the hilarious song challenge Jimmy Kimmel threw at her.
Is there nothing that Ariana Grande canât sing? The former âThe Voiceâ coach was put to the test during the February 5 episode of âJimmy Kimmel Live,â when she was presented with a song she didnât know. Spoiler alert: she totally nailed it.
Grande took on Kimmelâs âWing It & Sing Itâ music challenge and came through the other side without a hitch. The former âThe Voiceâ coach agreed to sing a completely unknown song that focused on her petite stature.
âYour test tonight, if you choose to accept it, is to sing a song youâve never seen the lyrics or heard any of the music before,â the host told her. âItâs time to wing it and sing it!â
Grande sang through a series of cue cards showing the lyrics and, as Kimmel removed them one by one, the words got more absurd.
The singer, accompanied by a talented pianist, managed to find a melody along the way as she worked through her giggles â and even added some signature riffs.
The song kicked off with: âI am a strong, successful woman who always stands up tall, even though I am in fact so very, very small.â
The lyrics reflected things that are small, with words including: âIâm a human baby carrot. Iâm a lady Pikachu. I am little. I am tiny. I am the perfect bite-sized snack. 10 of me stacked up only equals one of Shaq.â
At one point, Grande sang that sheâs so tiny, she fits in a hamster wheel and uses a sock for a bed. Other lyrics included, âAnd yes my name is Grande. Itâs ironic that Iâm small. People ask me, âWhere is your mom?â when walking through the mall.â
Though Grande pushed through like a boss, she admitted in her interview with Kimmel, âThat was terrifying.â The singer added, âIt was so much fun and absolutely insane. That was hilarious.â
During the interview, Grande also shared what it was like to hear about her Oscar nomination for her performance as Glinda in âWicked.â
âWhen they announced mine, I was a mess,â she said. âI almost collapsed.â
Grande received a flurry of calls and texts after it was announced â from her friends, family, team, therapist, and even her gynecologist. âIt was lovely,â she said of her doctorâs call. âI was like, âOh my God, itâs been a while. We good?'â
