An armed man was shot by the Secret Service early Sunday morning just outside the White House, CNN is reporting.
According to the report, Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi stated that his agency was alerted about a “suicidal individual” who was traveling to DC from Indiana, and Secret Service agents spotted the man based on a description given to them.
In a statement, Guglielmi said.,“As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel."
The man was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital.
CNN is reporting, "DC Metropolitan Police’s Internal Affairs Division Force Investigations Team will lead the investigation into the incident, Guglielmi said, as they are the primary agency responsible for officer involved shootings in the District of Columbia."
