Ashley Young has copied Jose Mourinho’s iconinc ‘big trouble’ meme with his response to Manchester United's penalty controversy.
The Red Devils thought they had conceded a late penalty at Everton on Saturday after Young himself was taken down by a combination of Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt. Referee Andy Madley initially gave the spot-kick but changed his mind after being sent to the VAR screen.
Young was pictured arguing with the referee after the final whistle but to little avail. And the former United star has now taken to social media with an amusing response.
Writing on Twitter, he said: “A point’s a point, onwards and upwards! Decisions, Angles ‘I prefer not to speak, if I speak I am in big trouble’ UTFT,” alongside an eyes, a shrugging and a blue heart emoji.
Young’s tweet emulates an iconic rant from former United and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who criticised the performance of Chris Foy after his then Chelsea side fell to defeat to Aston Villa in 2014.
Young’s outrage was matched by that of Everton boss David Moyes who was baffled at the original decision being overturned. Speaking to TNT Sports, he said: "I've had a look at it, and [Maguire] undoubtedly pulls his jersey.
"After that, you have to make your own mind up. I thought the on-field decision looked the correct decision. I was a bit surprised [the referee] was asked to go to VAR because I thought it looked difficult to change your mind on that.
“But when you go to VAR, it's as if the people who are watching on a screen understand more. It went against us today. I'm not going to complain too much about it but today it just didn't go for us."

Unsurprisingly, there’s a very different reaction among the United ranks, who were convinced that the overturn was correct. Boss Ruben Amorim said: "I think it was a soft touch from what I saw. I think it was a soft penalty, it was clear."
That was an assessment that Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes agreed with. Asked if he was surprised that the call was changed, he said: "No, no. The referee said the angle was very close from the body so it's nothing to do with that.”
United are back in action midweek after their fortunate escape as they take on struggling Ipswich. Everton in the meantime face Brentford on Wednesday evening.
