Ayrshire councils update residents as county braced for Storm Eowyn
Updates have been posted from Ayrshire's three council as they prepare for the effects of Storm Éowyn with the region in the firing line for the worst of the weather
Ayrshire’s three councils have been preparing for the impacts of Storm Éowyn with a number of services stood down in anticipation of severe weather.
A rare red weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for Friday, January 24, as the storm is forecast to bring winds as high 100mph along the Ayrshire coast.
The warning is in place between 10am and 5pm.
Ayrshire Live have rounded up the latest developments ahead of the storm’s arrival tomorrow morning.
All schools in the area will be closed. East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire and North Ayrshire Council have all taken the decision with the safety of pupils and staff in mind.
Further education institutions have also closed and places of interest including Dumfries House are also closed.
The three councils have also announced that bin collections will be suspended tomorrow and that household waste recycling centres will be closed.
Bins in East Ayrshire will instead be collected on Saturday, January 25, while South Ayrshire residents may have to wait until Sunday, January 26.
North Ayrshire Council have not stated when bins due for collection tomorrow will be uplifted but they will update residents on social media.
South Ayrshire Council have cancelled all burials and cremations due to take place tomorrow. The council said: “Our thoughts are with the bereaved families affected. This is not a decision we have taken lightly and our bereavement team will directly liaise with Funeral Directors and families to make alternative arrangements.”
They also confirmed that any emergency repairs can be reported by calling 0300 123 0900.
