Father Brown: Season 12 Episode 1 promo trailer
Father Brown star Claudie Blakey has revealed she cried while filming an episode of season 12.
The hit crime series returned to the BBC earlier this month, with all new episodes available to stream now on BBC iPlayer. The period drama notably follows Father Brown, a Roman Catholic priest, who uses his distinctive skills to solve various crimes in his Cotswold village.
Speaking about the new instalments, Claudie, who plays Mrs Devine in the much-loved series, revealed that her character gets embroiled in a murder case, which left her feeling "emotional" while filming the hard-hitting scenes.
"I get accused of murdering somebody in one episode, which was brilliant to film, even though I spent a lot of the episode crying!" she said.

"It was pretty frightening because in those days that would be it for Mrs Devine, she could be hanged if found guilty. So the stakes are high for Sullivan in that episode and it was really emotional."
The scenes are likely to strike a chord with fans, after season 11 wrapped up on a romance cliffhanger. Sullivan finally plucked up the courage to get down on one knee and ask for Mrs Devine's hand in marriage.
Claudie let slip that the couple will face a difficult decision that could see them pack their bags and head to London ahead of their nuptials.
"We've taken three series to get here, but here we are finally!" she said of the engagement.

The couple's engagement bubble will soon be shattered, though, when Sullivan's father puts forward his own ideas for the wedding.
"Sullivan's father also says that he won't give the wedding his blessing unless they both move to London, which shocks Mrs Devine," Claudie continued.
"She's scared at the prospect of having to leave Kembleford and her friends, but she considers it for Edgar and for his career; she loves him."
As the series reaches its 12th instalment, Claudie explained that the show remains so beloved because of it's "wonderful" stories.
"This series is even better than the last, the era and of course the beautiful backdrop of the Cotswolds," she concluded.
