Throughout the week, fans could track Jamie's progress on social media, witnessing his increasing difficulty with each passing day of the run.

At times, viewers saw him leaning on friends and family for support as he limped along in agony. Despite the pain, Jamie persevered and triumphantly reached the finish line on Friday afternoon, having raised a staggering £2,053,835.

The emotional toll was evident, as the ex-reality TV star was frequently seen in tears at different stages of the journey.

On Saturday's instalment of BBC Breakfast, Jamie opened up to presenters Ben Thompson and Rachel Burden about the ordeal, acknowledging it as one of the toughest experiences he's faced, reports the Mirror.

When Ben probed into what motivated him to continue, particularly when he encountered severe physical barriers, Jamie shared: "I really didn't want to let anyone down. I think that was it.

"I've lived a very lucky life. I have a roof over my head, I have a lovely family, I have lovely friends. Lots of people don't have that, and you see the pain that people go through every single day. I just thought people are in real pain."

The BBC radio personality was visibly moved as he shared a touching story about a young supporter of his charity run. He said: "There was one young girl, 12 years old- It's going to make me go now."

Regaining his composure, he added: "She was going through chemo and she had donated her pocket money."

Reflecting on the impact of such gestures, he noted: "When you think of that, when you think of that, you think, 'Well, of course you're going to do this'. So, that's what got me through, it was just an amazing experience."

Towards the end of the interview, co-hosts Ben and Rachel pointed out that Jamie hobbled into the studio, leading them to inquire about how he was feeling. Jamie admitted: "I'm really struggling to be honest. There's a lot of pain going on."

Despite the physical toll, Jamie expressed gratitude towards the team who supported him, calling them 'incredible'. Rachel curiously asked about the first meal he enjoyed post-challenge.

Jamie mentioned his indulgence in a pizza and a scotch egg, as Ben suggested he takes time to recover following the segment. Over the weekend, Jamie expressed his gratitude on social media for the overwhelming support he received.

Part of his caption read: "I'm going to start with the Team behind it all, @bbcradio1 @comicrelief everyone. You have no idea the organisation, the balance of moments the catering, physio, logistics, mapping, planning, socials, everything that goes into something like this. It's completely mind blowing - and there was not one slip up, not one moment that wasn't completely seamless.

"That shows true leadership and true team work. Every single person was passionate, excited and drove me forward each day so thank you to everyone! ! ! To my @bbcradio1 family - wow you guys brought me in with open arms and accepted me from day 1. Words cannot express how grateful I am for you! ! Truly."

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
