The BBCâs unscripted supremo Kate Phillips will take on content boss Charlotte Mooreâs role at least in the interim.
An all-staff note from Director General Tim Davie has just been sent around announcing Phillipsâ new temporary gig with âimmediate effect.â
âWeâre very lucky to have someone of her calibre and deep experience ready to step in,â wrote Davie. âI know that sheâll be supported by our world-class Content team through this period. The process of finding a permanent Chief Content Officer is now underway, and Iâll keep you updated with progress.â

In our runners and riders piece yesterday, which followed Mooreâs shock exit announcement, we had predicted Phillips would take on the role in the interim. She is also seen as a solid candidate to land the job permanently. In recent weeks, we are told that Phillips has at points been acting up for Moore after Moore broke her ankle while skiing, and she is understood to have been dipping her toe into drama.
Davie highlighted Phillipsâ experience over 12 years with the BBC most recently as Director of Unscripted. He pointed to her brief stint as the final controller of BBC One before the corporation did away with the channel controller roles. In her current post, she oversees hundreds of hours of shows per year including The Traitors, Strictly Come Dancing and Dragonsâ Den.
Moore is moving to The Crown producer Left Bank later this year and the search for her permanent successor has already begun. Other potential candidates include BBC Studios Productions boss Zai Bennett, Netflix UK content chief Anne Mensah and Appleâs Jay Hunt.
