BGT fans say same thing as they make huge discovery about opening act
The first live semi final of Britain's Got Talent aired on Saturday night and the very first act gave viewers a lot to talk about.
Viewers of Britain's Got Talent were taken aback to discover that the opening act of the first semi-final show of the 2025 season was a former member of a popular girl band.
The enduring series commenced with a spectacular performance by singer Karis Anderson, who is currently headlining the cast of the smash-hit West End musical Tina.
The 35-year-old vocalist portrays the legendary Tina Turner in the musical, which narrates the life and illustrious career of the Goldeneye singer who sadly passed away at 83 in 2023.
Fans of Britain's Got Talent were treated to a mesmerising rendition of the 1966 Ike and Tina Turner hit River Deep Mountain High by Karis.
While many were captivated by her vocals alone, others were astounded when they recognised her from her career outside the West End. This is because she is part of the girl band Stooshe, performing alongside fellow band mates Alexandra Buggs and Courtney Rumbold.
The trio formed their band in 2010 after responding to an audition call and signed a record deal with Warner Music in August 2011. They went on to release chart-topping singles such as Slip, Love Me and the Number 3 hit Black Heart.
Their debut album, London with the Lights On, launched in 2013 and secured the number eight spot on the charts, reports The Mirror.
BGT's Saturday evening spectacle left audiences stunned and fans had the same thing to say about Karis' formidable vocal chops. A fan exclaimed on X: "Karis Anderson singing Tina Turner should win Britain's Got Talent." Another enthused: "The amazingly fabulous Tina Musical to start!"
Stooshe aficionados might be disheartened to hear the band has been silent since 2016, with no indication of a musical comeback on the horizon. In an Instagram post last year, band member Alexandra broke the news: "Hey loves, I'm sorry to say we aren't announcing new music before I get your hopes up."
She continued:"Your girl's a mumma (been for a couple years now lol) and I am starting a new business within the parent and baby space."
Elsewhere in Britain's Got Talent, Scottish singer Vinnie Mckee and Swiss dance crew The Blackouts made it into the grand finale. Vinnie earned his spot as the audience favourite while The Blackouts were propelled directly to the final round after Amanda Holden hit the golden buzzer for them in a historic first for the live semi-finals.
The 2025 season introduced a twist: each episode sees one judge nominated to wield the golden buzzer, bestowing an act with immediate finalist status.
Amanda Holden was left in awe of a team's performance, which, despite technical delays, earned them a golden buzzer advancement. Yet, this rule change has divided fans, with concerns that the final may be dominated by judges' picks over public favourites.
The live audience's incessant urging for Amanda to hit the golden buzzer after each act became a source of annoyance for viewers at home until The Blackouts finally received the coveted press. One viewer vented on Twitter: "The golden buzzer in the semi finals already causing havoc cause the audience won't shut up #bgt."
Another echoed the sentiment: "Will this audience shut up #BGT."
Another viewer expressed their frustration, writing: "A live show golden buzzer is completely unnecessary. What if she doesn't press it at all? #BGT." Meanwhile, another posted: "#BGT in other words it's so the judges can fix it!"
The format of having multiple semi-final shows spread across over a month also came under fire on social media. A viewer lamented: "So every Saturday for the next 6 weeks, is the Semi Final episodes #BGT."
Britain's Got Talent continues on Saturday night at ITV1 and ITVX
