Barry Keoghan's new movie receives rave reviews as it finally lands in UK
Barry Keoghan's new movie Bring Me Down has finally arrived in UK cinemas.
The much-anticipated feature film Bring Me Down has finally hit UK cinemas, with its release on 7 February. The movie made its initial premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 and later at the London Film Festival.
Bring Me Down marks a feature directorial debut for Christopher Andrews and features a stellar cast including Barry Keoghan, Christopher Abbott, Nora-Jane Noone, Paul Ready, Aaron Heffernan, Conor McNeill, Susan Lynch, and Colm Meaney.
Set against the backdrop of the Irish countryside, the drama centers around Jack and Michael, portrayed by Barry and Christopher respectively, as two feuding farmers whose bitter rivalry unfolds with tragic implications for their local community.
The movie delves into powerful themes such as toxic masculinity and the legacy of trauma within agricultural societies.
Ahead of its nationwide cinema launch and its anticipated streaming on MUBI, Bring Me Down has garnered critical acclaim, boasting an impressive approval rating of 90 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes based on its initial 50 reviews.
Critical voices in the media have lauded the film's performances, with Digital Spy commending: "Andrews does a great job at building up the tension, helped by a steady and menacing percussion-based soundtrack reminiscent of war drums... the themes of generational trauma, toxic masculinity and tradition against modernity are delivered with brutal efficiency if not always depth or precision."
In another rave review from The Independent read: "Shaped like a crime thriller, yet has the sharp ache of tragedy. It unfurls across a landscape beautifully lensed by cinematographer Nick Cooke, yet feels claustrophobic, as if that landscape might suddenly snap its jaws shut and swallow everyone whole."
Anticipation is mounting around the film that's poised to captivate audiences. Bring Me Down has already scooped up several accolades, nabbing Best Film at Fantastic Fest, securing the Fipresci Prize at the Mannheim-Heidelberg Festival, and clinching Best Screenplay at the Rome Film Festival, reports the Irish Mirror.
Furthermore, Christopher, who penned the script, was honoured with Best Debut Director at the British Independent Film Awards in November 2024. The movie also earned a coveted nomination for Best Debut Producer at the same event.
Bring Them Down is in cinemas from 7 February.
