The Las Vegas Raiders and Ben Johnson, the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator have been closely connected during this coaching cycle.
Johnson is a man in high demand following several successful seasons in Detroit, including this year where the 15-2 Lions locked up the NFC's No. 1 seed.

Despite the Lions still being in the playoffs, Johnson has been able to do virtual interviews with prospective teams, including one with the Tom Brady-minority owned Las Vegas Raiders, who are in search of a new head coach after firing Antonio Pierce.
However, the Raiders, including Brady, are not supposed to have contact with candidates after their first interview until their team is eliminated from the postseason.
Some conspiracy theorists online suggested the New England Patriots legend broke NFL rules by 'illegally tapping up' Johnson, but Johnson was quick to shut those baseless theories down.
Johnson told reporters at the Lions facility this week that he never even talked to Brady during his interview process.

In fact, he explained that's he only met Brady once, way before he was ever linked to the Raiders, and only for a brief second before the Lions-Packers game back in early November.
"I know nothing of that nature," Johnson said of Brady's conflict of interest. "I met him the Packers game, on the field I saw him for a second in pregame. That's the first time I ever met him."
The Raiders-Johnson momentum has slowly been building in recent days, with Johnson "seriously considering" the Las Vegas job, according to The Athletic.
Brady has reportedly been "imploring" the Lions offensive coordinator to seriously consider the Raiders' head coach opening, according to NFL Network.

Pro Football Post (via Sports Illustrated) added: "Some in league circles wondered why the Raiders were with Ben Johnson last week, leading Tom Brady to spend an hour on the phone with the coach’s agent recruiting Johnson to Las Vegas.
"According to sources close to the situation, one detail stood out in Johnson’s interview: Preparation. Sources have said Johnson not only impressed the Raiders with his football acumen, but he also came incredibly prepared with a clear direction he believes he would be able to go with his coaching staff."

With that said, Johnson's potential move to Las Vegas has been complicated by the involvement of TB12.
The legendary NFL quarterback is a minority owner of the Raiders having acquired a 10 percent stake in the franchise last year, and has taken an active role in their search for a new head coach.
Brady is also Fox's lead color commentator, signing a 10-year, $375 million contract with the network in 2024.
Due to Brady's dual role as a team owner commentator, and potential conflict of interest that may bring, the NFL has placed significant restrictions on him during his time as a broadcaster, prohibiting him from attending practices, traveling to clubs’ facilities or doing onsite interview prep with coaches ahead of broadcast assignments.
There's also been widespread concern about Brady showing bias and having a conflict of interest when he works the broadcast for Fox during Saturday night's Lions-Commanders game.
The TV announcer will be near Johnson this weekend at Ford Field in Detroit, with the unavoidable 'conflict' leaving some NFL fans furious.

However, Brady will still be on the call for the divisional round clash, with Johnson doubling down on his stance that no rules have been flouted and all his virtual interviews have been above board.
“This go-around, I’ve been a lot more prepared for the types of questions that they’ve been asking,” Johnson said. “In that way, I’m a lot more prepared for the questions that come my way and I’m much more comfortable answering them.”
Johnson is undoubtedly one of the NFL's hottest coaching commodities, with the Raiders reportedly facing stiff competition for his services from the likes of the Bears and Jaguars, who both have vacant head coach positions.
The Bears interviewed Johnson last weekend, but the OC cannot conduct any second interviews until a Super Bowl bye week, or if the Lions are eliminated earlier.

Johnson has been picky about jobs since first joining a coaching carousel in 2023, famously backing out as the Commanders’ front-runner last year.
However, he's seemingly open to the Raiders job, despite the lack of a quarterback, with Brady's involvement likely a motivating factor.
