Best NBA prop bets for Knicks vs. Lakers: Luka, LeBron host Knicks in L.A.
Newsweek breaks down the best prop bets for Knicks vs. Lakers ahead of tonight's star-studded battle between red-hot L.A. and New York on TNT.
The opening game of tonight's NBA doubleheader on TNT, 76ers vs. Celtics at 7:30 p.m. ET, is shaping up as a slog.
Philadelphia is banged up and in disarray, and the Celtics will be without several key pieces, including Jrue Holiday, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis and Jaylen Brown.
The late game on TNT tonight fortunately looks like a doozy, though.
At 10 p.m. ET, the Knicks and Lakers clash in one of L.A.'s biggest games since it landed Luka Doncic.
The Lakers, who are 8-2 in their last 10 games and seeking their eighth straight victory, are slight favorites at crypto.com Arena.
The Knicks are 6-4 in their last 10 games, including 3-2 in their last five, but should get a boost from the return of Karl-Anthony Towns tonight, who is reportedly going to be available.

Best Player Prop Bets for Knicks vs. LakersKarl-Anthony Towns 13+ Rebounds (+120 at DK) -- 1 unit
Towns is having one of the best years of his career as both a scorer (he's No. 15 in the NBA with 24.5 points per game) and a rebounder. Across the entire league, only Domantas Sabonis averages more than Towns's 13.4 boards per game.
We're admittedly rolling the dice here by assuming he's at full strength tonight after missing Wednesday's loss to Golden State for personal reasons.
Still, I like Towns to redeem himself against the Lakers in this matchup.
He turned in one of his worst games as a Knick (just 11 points on 3-for-12 shooting from the floor) when N.Y. and L.A. met for the first time this year on Feb. 1.
The Knicks lost that one 128-112 at home after entering the fourth quarter down 91-89. Towns' three made field goals in that loss marked his season-low, while his 11 points were the second-fewest of the year and his six rebounds were also the fewest he's recorded in a game all season.
That performance is still hard to make sense of, as it came with Anthony Davis on the sidelines.
Right now, the Lakers -- who are 17-3 over the last 20 (8-2 with Doncic, 9-1 before his arrival) -- look like a machine.
If they have one weakness, though, it's at center, where 24-year-old Jaxson Hayes has been their only option since AD was dealt to Dallas.
Hayes has defied his skeptics, though, both before and since the Doncic deal. But keeping Towns off the glass, especially with de facto L.A. big Rui Hachimura out tonight, is a big ask for the seven-foot, 220-pound Hayes.
Towns has secured at least 16 rebounds in three of his last five games, and he should be fresh after not playing since his team's overtime win over Miami last Sunday. That makes him a safe, high-value bet at +120 to grab 13 boards, which is below his season average.
Austin Reaves 20+ Points (-105 at bet365) -- 1 unit
Reaves is another player we're high on in his return to action. In the Lakers' last three games, they got a total of nine minutes of action from Reaves, who exited the Feb. 28 win over the Clippers early, then missed the last two games.
But before that, Reaves, who has started 53 games this year and is averaging 19 points per game, had strung together four straight impressive showings. From Feb. 20-27, Reaves averaged 24.5 points and 6 assists in wins over the Blazers, Nuggets, Mavs and Timberwolves.
With great shots available on seemingly every possession thanks to Doncic and James, expect Reaves to continue to put up big numbers as the new-look Lakers put one opposing defense after another in knots. It's also worth noting that Reaves hung 27 on the Knicks, who are 19th on the year in defensive rating, when these teams met in early February.
The caveat here is that big minutes for Reaves, who is listed as probable, are no guarantee tonight in his first game back after his recent calf injury. That being said, as long as he can play anywhere near his normal minutes, we expect him to reach 20 points with ease.
Knicks vs. Lakers Prediction, Best Bets
There's not much of a case to be made against the Lakers right now.
L.A. winning its first several games after the Doncic trade despite poor outside shooting from their new star (he made multiple 3s in just two of his first six games in a Lakers uniform) should have sent shockwaves around the league.
Sure enough, Doncic -- a career 34.7 percent 3-point shooter -- has not forgotten how to shoot from deep. With Luka knocking down 14-of-34 triples (just over 41 percent) over the last three games, the Lakers have been that much tougher to guard in their last three games.
Obviously, that doesn't bode well for a Knicks team that has struggled to get stops in recent weeks.
