Beyond Paradise's Kris Marshall paid tribute to his co-star Jamie Bamber ahead of the third season's return.

Beyond Paradise's Kris Marshallpaid tribute to his co-star Jamie Bamber ahead of his return as DI Humphrey Goodman. After starting off in Death in Paradise, Humphrey then moved to colder climates as he settled down in Shipton Abbott, Devon, with his partner Martha. Jamie Bamber plays Martha's former fiance Archie , who is a local wine supplier, but hasn't been seen since the first series. But as Archie returns, Kris has shared his thoughts. Humphrey is in a very good place. He’s well-settled in Shipton Abbott, both in his job and personal life.
He said: "Working with Jamie is fantastic. It’s nice to have another actor of a similar age and experience on set, especially since we have both been in the industry since the 90s. While we didn’t know each other well back then, we have a lot of mutual friends, and it’s great to have someone around who shares that history.
"Jamie is a seasoned actor and a lovely person who brings a lot of fun to the set. We get along really well and it’s always a pleasure working with him."
Jamie also spoke about the character's return, as he said he “couldn’t have been more delighted” to be back on Beyond Paradise.
He added: “I love that part of the world and I love all the people involved. It’s such a warm-hearted work environment. The vibe you get on-screen is very much echoed behind the camera.
"For me, the real heart of the show is the relationships and character arcs."
He concluded: "They’re three-dimensional - navigating love, loss, illness and life’s ups and downs. That’s where Archie operates. He’s part of that beating heart of the show."
Series three will also see Martha taking a role in her Humphrey's job, which Kris has teased is set to be one of his character’s tougher challenges.
He added: "He struggles with the emotional toll it takes to see someone he loves potentially involved in something criminal.
"Humphrey and Martha have their own challenges. And that kind of storyline, where they may have been fractured, has been done. And I don't think that we need to revisit that.
"But also, I think that Humphrey and Martha are quite unique in terms of a sort of main protagonist couple, who don't have these massive indiscretions and dramas between them."
Beyond Paradise returns at 8pm on BBC1.
