Beyond Paradise star in horror health scare as exit 'sealed' for fan favourite
Beyond Paradise aired some sad scenes this evening as the BBC One series returned for a new set of episodes with DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi) at the helm
Beyond Paradise aired some tough to watch scenes this evening - as one character fell ill. The BBC One detective series - a spin-off from hit show Death In Paradise - returned this evening for its brand new series.
Whilst the policing team was busy arguing with their Cornish counterparts on who would be solving the latest death, when a man's body was found in a river, Martha (Sally Bretton) was busy setting up her café in a new location.

The Cornish team are convinced the death of the man is just a tragic accident, Humphrey (Kris Marshall) and Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi) are convinced there is more at play. The victim's partner is no other than a local councillor, with Humphrey and Esther convinced they need to do their bit to work out what really happened - but is all as it seems?
Fans, though, may be distracted - as it seems like something isn't right with Anne Lloyd (Barbara Flynn). In one scene that aired this evening, Anne collapsed behind the scenes as Ten Mile Kitchen got off to a stellar start.
When Martha and Esther's daughter Zoe rushed in to check on Anne, she insisted she was fine, telling them: "I just feel a bit lightheaded. I didn't fall, but my legs buckled from beneath me. I skipped breakfast; it’s always a mistake." However, is it all as it seems?
Barbara previously opened up about the health scare - admitting it is a "bombshell" when Anne finds out what is wrong.
"At the end of the previous series, Anne was in a very tender and vulnerable place. She had experienced a terrible betrayal and a profound loss of trust. In this new series, she’s busy trying to move on with her life in a very focused and solitary way, throwing herself into tasks to keep going. Then, out of nowhere, a bombshell hits. It’s a shock," she said.
"The issue is deeply private for her but it ends up intertwined with her charming relationship with Zoe. It’s not exactly a grandmother-granddaughter relationship, but more of a unique, evolving friendship. Instead of confiding in Martha, who Anne feels reluctant to burden, Zoe manages to draw it out of her in her direct, youthful, clumsy, yet completely adorable way."
She added: "Anne is, in a way, forced to take action because of Zoe’s persistence. She likely would have done something eventually, but Zoe’s involvement gives her a push to act sooner. This strengthens their friendship, consolidating the bond between them. However, it also creates a tension - Zoe wants Anne to share her concerns with everyone but Anne, being private and fearful, resists.

"It’s a beautifully crafted story, as the team always manages to create. They weave together relationships, emotional depth and moments of levity to create something that feels authentic and relatable. This is a story that could happen to any of us and that’s the magic of the series - it touches on life’s everyday challenges with such light and skill."
