Billy Ray Cyrus toxic family feud as kids reaction to Liz Hurley speaks volumes

News that Billy Ray Cyrus is in a hot new romance with Liz Hurley has left fans stunned as the pair went Instagram official over Easter weekend. Liz, 59, shared a photo of singer Billy Ray, 63, kissing her cheek in a joint post on Instagram. Her son Damian Hurley, 23, immediately responded with a love heart emoji. It made a stark contrast to Billy Ray's own children who chose to ignore his latest relationship.
Billy Ray has a total of five children with his ex-wife Tish Cyrus, 57, including having adopted her kids Brandi Cyrus, 37, and son Trace Cyrus, 36. The former couple are also parents to Miley Cyrus, 32, Noah Cyrus, 25, and Braison Cyrus, 30. Billy Ray is also dad to son Christopher Cyrus, 33, from another relationship.
Tension within the family erupted as Billy Ray and Tish split and then divorced in 2023 after 30 years of marriage After two previous divorce filings, the pair finally went their separate ways in April 2022, saying at the time: "We have grown up together, raised a family we can be so proud of, and it is now time to create our own paths."
Article continues belowDespite the amicable statement, it wasn't long before things turned nasty between the former spouses. Tish said she had only stayed with her husbandout of fear of being alone and said there was 'disrespect' on both sides. She revealed: “I think I did say so long out of fear of being alone. I met him when I was 23/ 24. Being alone and all of a sudden, having the weight of my world off my shoulders in some ways, I was able to just breathe and smoke pot in the garden and go skinny-dipping in my pool. That's what I did during Covid.”
Talking candidly on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she added: “I just never wanted to get a divorce. My mum and dad met on a Monday and married on a Friday. They were married for thirty years until my dad passed away. “We get hung up on what we want it to be. I'm looking at it like: ‘I just want us to keep our family together’ like it looked perfect but it was really frigging hard."
Taking a dig at Billy Rae she said: "I didn't even know until I had a new relationship that there was so much respect, how much disrespect there was in my marriage before, on both our parts.”

While Billy Rae also moved on quickly with Australian singer Firerose. Both Tisha and Billy Rae got engaged quickly to their new partners in the wake of their 30 year marriage ending.
Billy Rae and Firerose assured fans there was no overlap with her Tisha marriage, after it was reported singer and actress Miley “doesn’t have a relationship” with Firerose and took her mum's side. Miley served as maid of honour at Tish’s August wedding to actor Dominic Purcell but did not attend her dad's wedding service.
A bitter war of words between the Cyrus family erupted this year following Billy Rae's performance at President Trump's inauguration.
After the performance, Trace said that he "barely recognises" his father. He shared concern in a post on Instagram in January claiming Billy Ray was "not healthy" and said they haven't "talked in a while".
He posted: "Since my earliest memories all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever. I wanted to be just like you. The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life."
Trace continued: "Sadly the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognise now. It seems this world has beaten you down and it's become obvious to everyone but you."
He continued: "Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you've pushed all of us away." He added: "We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns."
He later accused Billy Ray of threatening him with legal action over his post. In a follow up statement he shared: "Dad my message was beyond loving. I could have been extremely honest about a lot more but I don't want to put your business out there like that. But for you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace. [...] I will always love you but I no longer respect you as a man. Everyone close to you is terrified to tell you how they really feel. I'm not. Get help."
Billy Ray's younger son Braison however later defended him. As previously reported, he said that his father was "happy and healthy" in a post of his own. He wrote: "I've spent the last year getting to know my dad better than I ever have. After he spent a week in the hospital in the fall, I'm grateful that my dad is happy, healthy and ready to make [a new] record."
Braison also dismissed any suggestion that he was involved in a potential feud among the family amid the attention on the family at the time. He told People magazine: "I don't have any bad feelings toward anyone in my family."
Billy Ray also addressed the situation himself. As reported at the time, he wrote in a post: "Sunday callin'. Giving thanks for the California Rain. Praying for the brokenhearted and their pain. Praying for my family. For my children ... sons and daughters...and their mother. Let this moment be the start of healing for us all. 'The past does not equal the future.' Amen." Clarifying his stance more recently, he wrote in February: "All I want is healing for my family."
It was already thought that Miley had been estranged from Billy Ray for some time. She notably left him out of her acceptance speech at the Grammy Awards last year, despite thanking her mother and one of her sisters.
She said at the time: "I want to thank everyone that's standing on this stage right now Tom, Tyler, Michael and Greg. Our teams, my team, Crush, Columbia, my mommy, my sister, my love, my main gays cause look how good I look. Anyone else? [...] All the people that we love. Thank you all so much. I don't think I forgot anyone. But I might have forgotten underwear. Bye!"
Speaking to David Letterman on Netflix's My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, Miley said she "inherited the narcissism" from her father, but admitted he had "guided" her on her career.
She said: "He has a relationship and a foot on the ground to like the real and to nature and he always did, even when he was super famous. I'm grateful for being able to watch him ahead of me." Miley added: "He's almost like given me this map. And there's a map of what to do and what not to do, and he's guided me on both." She however teased in the interview that she has "inherited the narcissism" from her father.
Billy extended an olive branch to Miley back in February though amid the rumours of tension within the family. It came after his daughter took home the award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Beyoncé - for their collaboration II Most Wanted - at this year's Grammys.
Alongside a photo of her, Billy Ray wrote: "Congratulations [Miley] and [Beyoncé] on their well-deserved Grammy wins. Couldn't be prouder." He tagged Miley in the caption on the platform and she later liked the post.
He's continued to support her since then. He praised both Miley and Noah, whom he's thought to have remained close to, over their careers in a post on March 25. He wrote: "Holy s**t. I seldom ever swear in my post but this deserves one. You are witnessing in real time what it feels like for a Dad who with in less than one weeks time has had his a** kicked and his mind blown by not one ... but two of his own daughters [Miley and Noah]."
Billy Ray added: "Flesh and blood ... completely taking their art to a whole new level. Congratulations girls! Well done. I'm so damn proud of both of you. I'm actually crying as I write this. Thank God you can't see me. Have fun now and be happy. Love Dad."
In the comments section, one fan wrote to him: "I hope that all of you heal or have healed your relationships! Everyone deserves a second chance." Billy Ray liked the comment and then responded with a series of red heart emoji.
Then, earlier this month, following the release of Miley's music video for her song Something Beautiful, he posted: "No April Fools Joke. This Something Beautiful video is SERIOUS CYRUS!!!! [Miley] Bringing the heat. Link on my stories."
