Blackpink's Jennie to Unveil Debut Solo LP in March

Jennie will release her first solo album, Ruby, on March 7. The LP is set to arrive via the Blackpink memberās own record label Odd Atelier and Columbia Records.
Ruby is a 15-track effort featuring collaborations with Childish Gambino, Doechii, Dominic Fike, Dua Lipa, FKJ, and Kali Uchis. It will include Jennieās recent single āMantra,ā which she dropped in October.
āItās the perfect song to begin my new era,ā Jennie said in a statement at the time. āI think āMantraāĀ will make my fans happy but also show a new side of me as a solo artist. The song was inspired by my time recording in Los Angeles and hopefully fans feel that energy ā which is about being positive, being expressive, and being true to who you are. Itās energetic and empowering with a message for all of my ladies, women, and pretty girls out there to love yourself for who you are. This is your anthem.ā
āMantraā marked Jennieās first solo release since her one-off single āYou & Me.ā She kicked off her musical career outside Blackpink in 2018 with the aptly-titled āSolo.ā The singer told Billboard earlier this month that she began thinking about an album when Blackpinkās last tour wrapped in 2023.
āWhile I was on my last Blackpink tour, I couldnāt stop myself from starting to plan ahead,ā she said. āIām just like that. I listed out the things that I want in my life and started pinpointing, or prioritizing, whatās my very next step. And instantly, I was like, āI still havenāt accomplished the dream of releasing a solo album.ā I wanted to satisfy myself by achieving that goal.ā
She added that Ruby will showcase her as āa whole person.ā āYouāll definitely know what I mean once the album drops, but because Iām playing with a lot of different genres and elements ā Iām rapping here, Iām singing here, Iām harmonizing here, Iām talking here,ā she said. āThe overall sound was me making sure I like every single [song]. I didnāt want to be forced into putting a song onto my album ā thatās what I really fought for. And I was lucky to have all these people believe in me and support me so I could get to a level where we were like, āWow. I think weāre ready.āā
Blackpinkās last album, Born Pink, arrived in 2022. That same year, Jennie told Rolling Stone she would always be connected to Blackpink, regardless of her solo career. āI donāt think Blackpink will ever end in my heart, as corny as that sounds,ā she said. āRegardless of what I do, I will always be Blackpink. Even if weāre 70 and we have different lives, Iāll still feel like Iām Blackpink. Iām committed. Blackpink, to me, is more than whether we do music or not. Itās a part of my family. You canāt deny your family. There are ups and downs: Youāre all busy, you see them a lot, then you donāt ā youāre still family.āĀ
Ruby is available to pre-order now. The LP will be released digitally, as well as in various physical configurations, including two photobooks, a CD digipack, and a Target exclusive CD digipack. All physical products include a special Jennie Only Audio version of the album, which exclusively features vocals from Jennie and no featured artists.
, U.S. entertainment outlet Variety reported that Son Suk Ku and Choi Hee Seo would appear in the upcoming indie movie Bedford Park.
Son Suk Kuās agency Stannum confirmed the news, stating, āIt is true that Son Suk Ku will be appearing in the film.ā Choi Hee Seo also confirmed her involvement by sharing a screenshot of the article on her social media.
Bedford Park is the directorial debut of writer and editor Stephanie Ahn and tells the story of a Korean American woman grappling with the clash between familial loyalty and her personal aspirations and a former wrestler striving to make amends for his troubled past.
This marks the fourth collaboration between Son Suk Ku and Choi Hee Seo. The duo first worked together in the 2014 play Burning Love (literal title) and the 2023 play Army on the Tree (literal title). They also collaborated on the 2021 project Unframed, where they joined forces with actors Park Jung Min and Lee Je Hoon to write and direct a series of short films.
āBedford Parkā is expected to begin production this spring.
