Brandon Sklener and Meghann Fahy’s latest movie proves first dates can truly be a nightmare.
On Wednesday, January 22, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse debuted the first trailer for the highly anticipated thriller, Drop.
The film tells the story of a widowed mother named Violet (Fahy) who embarks on her first date in years with Henry (Sklenar).
While she is relieved to learn that her date is more charming and handsome than she initially expected, their chemistry takes a backseat when Violet begins to receive terrorizing, anonymous messages on her phone.
“Check your home security cameras,” one message reads. Another adds, “If you tell your date, your son dies.”
Violet quickly learns that she must do exactly as directed or everyone she loves will die. As an added twist, her unseen tormentor’s final directive is to kill Henry.
“First dates are nerve-wracking enough,” Universal Pictures shared in the film’s synopsis. “Going on a first date while an unnamed, unseen troll pings you personal memes that escalate from annoying to homicidal? Blood-chilling.”
Drop is directed by Christopher Landon, who previously wrote and directed the Happy Death Day movies and the 2020 slasher Freaky. Filmmaker Michael Bay is also listed among the movie’s producers.
The project comes as Fahy’s stardom continues to rise, thanks in no small part to her performances in The White Lotus and The Perfect Couple.
As for Sklenar, he won over the hearts of moviegoers when he starred in the 2024 adaptation of Colleen Hoover‘s It Ends With Us.
In the film, Blake Lively’s character, Lily, escapes an abusive relationship with Ryle, played by Justin Baldoni, with help from her old flame Atlas, portrayed by Sklenar.
The movie ultimately began to make headlines for its drama off screen, too.

While Lively and Baldoni continue to navigate a very public, ongoing legal battle, Sklenar has decided to publicly support one of his costars.
The actor — who also appeared in Paramount+ Yellowstone prequel series 1923 — reposted a New York Times article that broke the news of Lively’s allegations against Baldoni via his Instagram Story in December 2024. (Baldoni has denied all allegations against him.)
He titled the link to the story, “For the Love of God Read This.” Sklenar also tagged Lively in the post alongside a single red heart emoji.

Baldoni has since sued Lively for $400 million in damages and accused the actress of being “determined to make Baldoni the real-life villain in her story.”
