Brennan Johnson makes instant impact as Spurs put together best run since 2023

IPSWICH 1-4 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR: Ange Postecoglou's team won a third straight Premier League game for the first time since 2023 as Brennan Johnson made an instant impactBrennan Johnson celebrates scoring his second goal for Spurs against Everton.
Ange Postecoglou had promised that Tottenham would come good once their injury list shortened.
And Brennan Johnson, making his return from a month out, was quick to prove his manager right by setting them on the way to a deserved win here.
While they remain six points off tenth position, Spurs have now won three straight in the league for the first time since December 2023.
Their performance was far from perfect but with Destiny Udogie, out since December, also welcomed back into the fold and options off the bench for the first time in months, the dark clouds are beginning to lift.
Johnsonâs brace was followed up by late efforts from Djed Spence and Dejan Kulusevski to leave Ipswich, who had pulled it back to 2-1 through Omari Hutchinson, five points adrift of safety.
Kieran McKennaâs team continue to perform well in patches but they have reached a situation where all that really matters now is points on the board.
The Tractor Boys had started like a train and briefly thought they were in front after 28 seconds when Jaden Philogeneâs shot appeared to go in only for Hutchinson, stationed on the line, to be flagged offside.
Ipswich were snappier, pressing Spurs new man Kevin Danso into conceding possession twice, and looked much the better team with Liam Delap hitting a post.
But Tottenhamâs quality and Ipswichâs lack of it soon told.
Johnson converted the opener from two yards out but credit belonged to Archie Gray for an exquisite ball over the top to Son, whose trickery before crossing twisted both Ben Godfrey and Dara OâShea inside out.
It was hard to fathom how loose Ipswichâs defending was for Johnsonâs second.
Omari Hutchinson pulled a goal back for Ipswich against Tottenham.
Son was the creator again, providing a low centre for Johnson. But the Wales star was inexplicably left unmarked inside the area, permitting him to take a deep breath before slotting past Alex Palmer.
Despite their rearguard sloppiness, Ipswich remained undeterred going forward and Hutchinson halved the deficit when Phillips forced Danso to cede the ball.
Phillips swiftly found Jack Clarke. He in turn picked out Hutchinson and the finish was clinical.
Ipswich were also more lively early in the second half and Luke Woolfenden headed home on the hour only to be correctly called offside.
Dejan Kulusevski scored Tottenham's fourth
Ipswich continued to push for a leveller but Spence eventually deflated them with the aid of a big deflection off Woolfenden 12 minutes from time.
James Maddison provided the set-up after a shimmy and Spence stayed composed.
There was an element of controversy about Kulusevskiâs strike to make it four after Jacob Greves went down near halfway following a clash of heads with Dane Scarlett.
Ref Tim Robinson allowed play to continue and the Swede chopped in from the right with plenty of space before side-footing in off the post. Either way the result was already beyond doubt.
