Britain's Got Talent's KSI feud with Tommy Fury and secret girlfriend
KSI will be serving as a guest judge during the audtion process of the ITV talent show
This weekend sees British YouTuber KSI join the Britian's Got Talent judging panel for the first time as the ITV talent show returns for its 18th season on Saturday night (February 22).
Beloved hosts Ant and Dec will be on presenting duties, with all four judges - Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli - returning.
‌
KSI will be serving as a guest judge during the audtion process after it faced delays in the aftermath of Liam Payne's death in October, with Simon taking some time off from the series.
While the younger genration have been following his career for over 15 years, it's likely many viewers will be meeting the viral sensation for the first time.
Born on June 19, 1993, Olayinka Williams Olatunji, known to his friends as JJ, was raised in the London town of Watford, where he lived with his dad Olajide, mum Olayinka and his younger brother Deji. He went to Reddiford School before attending Berkhamsted school.
‌
Speaking in his 2023 Amazon Prime documentary KSI: In Real Life, KSI broke down in tears as he admitted that his parents "didn't show much love" to him growing up and he had to attend therapy to delve into his early life.
He said: "It's just nice to have someone hug me and say that 'I love you' and stuff. I just definitely feel like there's things in my childhood that need to be addressed."
Initially joining YouTube in his early teens in 2008 under the username "JideJunior", the new Britain's Got Talent judge became KSI in July, 2009, when he set up his channel KSI Olajide BT, later shortening it to KSI. The name KSI is an abbreviation for his old gaming group "Knowledge Strength Integrity".
‌
Making FIFA videos from his bedroom in his parents' house, KSI made the decision when he was in sixth form to drop out of school and pursue YouTube as a full-time job. Speaking on This Morning, KSI admitted that after he "failed" his A-levels and said he is "living proof that not everyone is academic".
"I was getting to a point like what do I want do with my career and I was just enjoying YouTube. I never expected to be in the position I'm in today, but I just worked hard and enjoyed it and became obsessed with it.
‌
"I learned everything about it from the editing, to how to be comfortable in front of the camera, how to just be myself. And then after time more opportunities came from that, like the boxing, the music, all these things just happened."
By 2013, KSI had gained millions of subsribers on YouTube through his gaming videos, Q&As, skits and public challenges. With millions of subscribers to his name, he made the decision to form a YouTube group called the Sidemen with his school-friend Simon Minter and a number of other YouTube internet stars he met playing Grand Theft Auto.
The group, which also includes Josh Bradley, Toby Brown, Ethan Payne, Harry Lewis and Vik Singh Barn were the first breakout YouTube group, releasing videos filmed at the "Sidemen House" every Sunday, which they have been doing for the past eleven years.
‌
Calling the Sidemen "the core of his career" in a 2024 Netflix documentary about the group, KSI said: "Without YouTube, everything dies... I wouldn't be able to box, I wouldn't be able to do music without YouTube. So I always feel like I have to post content there to make sure everything thrives."
The Sidemen are currently preparing for their latest sold-out charity football match at Wembley Stadium, having previously played at West Ham's London Stadium and Charlton's The Valley. The 2023 game, which featured various YouTubers and streamers, raised over £2.4 million for CALM, Teenage Cancer Trust, Rays of Sunshine and M7Education.
Making videos together over the year's, with his brother going by the name Comedy Shorts Gamer, KSI and his brother Deji had a big falling out in 2018. The drama began when Deji made a diss track about his brother's friend and camerman Randolph, before sharing KSI's bank statements online.
‌
Blocking each other online for a period, things reached fever-point on Christmas Day, 2018. Thankfully, the brothers revealed they were back on speaking terms in a 2021 YouTube video on Deji's channel and have been close ever since.
Deji has appeared in numerous Sidemen videos since this and has fought on KSI's Misfits boxing promotion on several occasions.
‌
Sharing a birthday tribute to KSI in 2023, Deji wrote on Instagram: "Words can’t describe how much I look up to this man. Not only are you my brother but you’re also my mentor, my best friend and my ride or die! We have had our differences but, you need spark to make a fire! Happy 30th bro! I love you."
KSI began his professional boxing journey in November 2019, beating future business partner Logan Paul by a split decision in Los Angeles. Prior to this, KSI had beaten fellow UK YouTuber Joe Weller and drew to Logan in two unprofessional bouts. After picking up more wins against four other fighters, he set his sights on Tommy Fury.
Shorlty after the Love Island star beat Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia, it was announced that the pair would enter the ring at Manchester's AO Arena in October, 2023.
‌
Meeting face-to-face for the first time at their Wembley Arena press conference in August, Tommy's dad, John, brought things to an abrupt end when he launched a table off the stage and demanded KSI fight him. Throughout the build-up to the fight, the pair went down the personal route.
Speaking about Tommy's girlfriend at-the-time Molly Mae, KSI said in a YouTube video: "Tommy Fury has been pretty embarrassing these past few weeks. From him being with Chris Brown with zero rhythm looking hella awkward... all while Molly-Mae is looking after his kid at home."
Come fight night, with KSI walking out to his 2015 song Lamborghni, the duo contested a thrilling fight that saw both of them fighting in an othrodox stance. Despite Tommy having a point deducted and being caught with some hard shots, the judges awarded him the fight.
‌
While a rematch was expected to follow, nothing has arrived at this point in time. Back in November, Tommy told the Stomping Ground podcast that KSI "got beat fair and square" as he called him a "fool" and said "he can wait his turn".
Following on from his comedy songs from his early YouTube days, KSI released his debut single Lamborghni in 2015, which hit number 30 on the UK Singles Chart. After releasing his debut EP, Keep Up, in 2016 and reached number 13 on the UK album charts, KSI's status as a musican is arguably his biggest.
Dropping a number of singles over the years, KSI's debut album Dissimulation dropped in May 2020, debuting at number two on the UK Albums Chart. While he was disheartened by not hitting number one, he didn't have to fulfil his promise to his fans of shaving his head if it hit number one.
‌
On top of seeing his second album All Over The Place reaching number one in the UK, KSI has worked with the likes of Craig David, Anne-Marie, Polo G, Yungblud, Little Wayne and Tom Grennan in the past five years and has even received A BRIT Billion Award for receiving a billion streams across his songsin the UK.
Speaking to NME about his music in 2021, KSI said: "A lot of times, I’m like, ‘How did I get here?’ I was a gamer who played FIFA . I would just edit videos and put montage music and score goals online. Now I’m competing against The 1975. It’s a very surreal time."
‌
Joining forces with his former boxing rival Logan Paul, KSI launched Prime Hydration, a new sports drink that has since become Arsneal, Barcelona and Bayern Music's official hydration drink. At the time of its launch, supplies sold-out immediately, with bottles being spotted online for hundreds of pounds.
Addressing the Prime bottles being sold online for hefty fees, KSI said on This Morning in 2023: "I hate it. I want everyone to have Prime at a reasonable price. And it's not fair. Obviously people are gonna say it's business, but I just think it's unfair."
After the company found success in the drinks market, Prime launched a kids lunch kit with the world's most subscribed YouTuber Mr Beast last year called Lunchables. The lunch kits include a bottle of Prime, Mr Beast's Feastables choclate and either pizza, nachos or turkey stack ems.
‌
The launch of Lunchables was controversial with Minecraft steamer Dan TDM Tweeting: "What happened to YouTubers man. I can't not say anything anymore. This is selling stuff for the sake of making money, simple. How does this benefit their fans? This is selling crap to kids who don't know better than to trust the people who are selling it to them. Do better."
Issuing a fiery response to backlash, KSI said in a YouTube video: "It’s because people just hate us. People hate Logan Paul, okay? They hate Mr Beast, and they hate me on Twitter."
‌
While he might be one of the busiest men in the UK, KSI has been i a long-term relationship with a mystery woman for a number of years, with the public knowing miminal details about her.
KSI revealed on the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast that he and his girlfriend met on Tinder and that she has requested to stay away from the limelight. He said: "My girlfriend is just quiet like doesn’t wanna be famous. She works for the NHS, like normal nine-to-five. She’s super super simple."
He added on Good Morning Britian: “For me, I keep my private things very, very private. I have a girlfriend and she’s very private, we keep things quiet. Whenever I spend time with her, it's all about her. Even with my family, I like to do things privately and it's just making sure that whenever I need to be out in the public eye."
