Broadening taxpayer support for Cleveland sports teams also opens new options for Browns stadium
I surmise that many, perhaps most, Browns fans and game attendees live outside of Cleveland proper. In that regard, The Plain Dealer proposal for a quarter-percent sales tax from the surrounding counties to support not only the Browns, but other sports teams, as well, seems to be a reasonable solution that merits further serious consideration, and seems to provide another possible location for a new stadium, and a potential solution on what to do about Burke Lakefront Airport, writes Marvin Shie of Westlake in a letter to the editor.
With regard to the current controversy regarding the location of a Browns stadium, I would like to point out that there are several NFL stadiums located outside the city limits of their teamâs namesake cities. I would also remind people that, for many years, the Cavaliers played in the now-demolished Richfield Coliseum -- and were not known as the Richfield Cavs but remained the Cleveland Cavs during those years.
