Call the Midwife viewers couldnât contain their emotions as the show came to an end. The BBC period drama returned to screens earlier this year with its 14th series, once again following the lives of nurse midwives working in East London in the '70s.
The episode on Sunday evening (March 2) saw Nancy Corrigan make a return after a lengthy absence as she prepared to walk down the aisle with salesman Roger. Yet her big day was faced with an unexpected twist.
While Violet was checking Nancyâs measurements for the final time ahead of the big day, she dropped a bombshell and revealed that she was pregnant and was seven months along.
Nancy Corrigan made a return after a lengthy absenceShe admitted that when she found out, she decided that she didn't want to tell anyone. Things then took a dramatic turn as the baby made her grand debut far earlier than Nancy had anticipated.
Nancyâs contractions started, which prompted Nurse Crane to call for an ambulance but they didn't make it to the hospital.
While in the ambulance, Roger held his wife-to-be's hand as she gave birth to a little girl that they decided to call Melinda.
Despite Melinda arriving ahead of schedule, Nancy and Roger's wedding still went ahead and even though it was raining their special day was smooth sailing as their loved ones gathered to celebrate the couple.
Following the final episode, it didnât take long for fans to rush straight to social media to share their reaction. One viewer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: âNancy and Roger have a baby girl and I'm off! #CallTheMidwife,â followed by a crying emoji.
Despite Melinda arriving ahead of schedule, Nancy and Roger's wedding still went aheadAnother commented: âNoooooo not the last one donât leave me #callthemidwife.â A third said: âIâm an emotional wreck I canât stop crying Xx #CallTheMidWife.â
One commented: âI was not expecting this episode to be so sad, but I can't stop crying. #callthemidwife.â
