Call the Midwife finale leaves fans in tears after unexpected baby twist

Call the Midwife fans were left in tears as the latest series came to a dramatic close. The popular BBC period drama, which follows the lives of midwives working in East London during the 1970s, returned earlier this year with its 14th series.
Sunday's episode (March 2) saw the return of Nancy Corrigan after a long absence as she prepared to marry salesman Roger. However, her big day took an unexpected turn.
During a final fitting for her wedding dress, Violet discovered that Nancy was seven months pregnant, a secret she had been keeping from everyone. The drama escalated when Nancy went into labour far earlier than expected.
Nancy began having contractions and Nurse Crane called for an ambulance, but they didn't reach the hospital in time.
Nancy Corrigan made a return after a lengthy absenceIn the back of the ambulance, Roger supported his bride-to-be as she gave birth to a baby girl, who they named Melinda, reports the Mirror.
Despite their daughter's early arrival, Nancy and Roger's wedding proceeded as planned. Despite the rain, their special day went smoothly as friends and family gathered to celebrate the newlyweds.
After the season finale aired, fans were quick to take to social media, now known as X, to express their emotions. One fan posted: "Nancy and Roger have a baby girl and I'm off! #CallTheMidwife," accompanied by a crying emoji.
Another shared their dismay: "Noooooo not the last one don't leave me #callthemidwife." A third viewer expressed their feelings: "I'm an emotional wreck I can't stop crying Xx #CallTheMidWife."
Despite Melinda arriving ahead of schedule, Nancy and Roger's wedding still went aheadOne person remarked on the episode's impact: "I was not expecting this episode to be so sad, but I can't stop crying. #callthemidwife."
A different fan lauded the show: "Another incredible series. We should never take for granted just how exceptional #CallTheMidwife is - glorious television and a celebration of compassion, kindness and humanity. Writing, acting, music, production values... it's an absolute triumph! @CallTheMidwife1."
