Call the Midwife star's life from bank robbery to hypothermia on set
Cliff Parisi has been a familiar face on TV screens for decades, but actors fame was far from easy after he was jailed for bank robbery as a teenager
Call the Midwife is back on BBC One with its much-anticipated fourteenth series, and Cliff Parisi is once again donning his cap as the beloved Fred Buckle. Fred, the ever-reliable handyman and shopkeeper, has been a fixture of the show since it first graced our screens in 2012, always ready to lend a sympathetic ear.
Fred's character is married to councillor Violet Buckle (played by Annabelle Apsion), and he's a father to two daughters from a previous marriage, as well as their adopted son Reggie, portrayed by Daniel Laurie. Soap fans will recognise Cliff from his stint as the affable Minty Paterson, who arrived in Albert Square back in 2002.
Despite being a fan favourite, Cliff left EastEnders after eight years. However, just two years after leaving Walford, he bagged the role of the cheerful Fred Buckle in Call the Midwife.

Beyond EastEnders and Call the Midwife, Parisi has an impressive roster of roles in some of Britain's most loved TV shows over the years, including Casualty, Hollyoaks, Outnumbered, The Darling Buds of May, and London's Burning, reports the Mirror.
His acting career kicked off with the 1989 comedy film Queen of Hearts, where he played the Manager. Following this, he featured in A Bit of Fry and Laurie in 1990 and KYTV in 1990 and 1993.
From 1995 to 1996, Parisi portrayed Daniel Bentley in the ITV series Bramwell, and an uncovered photograph from 1996 reveals him as nearly unrecognizable in the role of the ill-fated hospital porter. In the image, he features darker hair, a beard, and a distressed expression.

During its second season, a cholera outbreak occurs, and Daniel Bentley falls ill.
Due to an error in medication dosing, he ultimately succumbs to poisoning. Bramwell aired on ITV for four seasons from May 1995 to June 1998. Parisi's path to fame, however, was far from effortless.
As a teenager residing in North London, he encountered legal issues that led to his incarceration for a criminal offense. At the age of 19, Cliff was imprisoned for 18 months following his involvement in a bank robbery ā an incident he has described as 'a massive mistake' that he profoundly regrets. The father of four has since transformed his life, cultivating a thriving acting career that spans several decades.
In a previous conversation with The Mirror, Cliff reflected on his past: "At the age of 19, I went off the rails and got involved with a bank robbery and I was jailed for 18 months. During my incarceration, I spent my time learning how to read and write properly."

This has hung over me like a black cloud. It was a massive mistake that I made and I deeply regret it. I am relieved that it is now out and I hope that people will find it in their hearts to forgive me."
The actor expressed profound remorse, yet also a message of hope, saying "No one regrets it more than I do. I also hope it inspires young men in jail not to give up hope. It is possible to get your life back on track again."
Last year, Parisi shared an anecdote about contracting hypothermia during the arduously "difficult" conditions while filming for the hit series Call the Midwife's thirteenth season. Viewers will remember scenes featuring the beloved characters from Nonnatus House unwinding at the beach.

Talking to The Mirror, Cliff and fellow cast detailed the challenge of working under such fierce elements. He recalled: "Everything was going sideways. The wind was unbelievable, it was so cold."
Despite wearing nothing but a shirt and a headscarf, he managed to hold onto the scarf although ultimately, the cold bested him. "I was wearing a shirt with a hanky on my head. I managed to keep the hanky the whole time - but I got hypothermia in the end. They had to take me off set. I had to warm up, I couldn't go back on," he recounted.
Away from the limelight, Cliff tied the knot with his wife Tara Wyer in 2010. Tara is a seasoned BBC producer who has lent her talents to shows like Nigella and The Weakest Link. The pair have one son together, while Cliff also has three other children from a previous relationship.
Call the Midwife currently airs every Sunday at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer
