Card Factory customers 'disgusted' after spotting message on Valentine's card
People have been left divided by an unusual card spotted on sale ahead of Valentine's Day at Card Factory – with some saying the concept is "disgusting". So what do you think?
The most romantic day of the year is fast approaching – February 14.
Many of us will be handing out cards to our loved ones as a token of our love for them this Valentine's Day – but who is it appropriate to give one to?
While many take the time to honour their partners on Cupid's big day, some show their appreciation for their friends. However, others seem to take things a step further by giving cards or presents to their work colleagues.
This has proven to be a controversial choice – as one woman was recently stunned after spotting cards for a 'work wife' or 'work husband' in Card Factory.
A 'work wife' or 'work husband' are typically platonic friendships with a co worker with whom you have a strong and trusting bond, which is typically your favourite bond at work. Plus, the relationship can feel a lot like a real-life marriage in that you look out for each other and finish each other's sentences.
While some use the expressions in an innocent way, some think it's disrespectful towards people who are in actual marriages. And one of these critics seems to be TikTok user @elehun, who said: "Surely not Card Factory."
The shopper, named Ellie, spotted a card which said: 'For my work husband on Valentine's Day. I've finally found someone just as inappropriate as me!' And there is a second option for work wives too.
In the video clip Ellie put her thumbs down to the cards on display - and divided opinion. One individual said: "Why is this acceptable? This is the world we live in and it's sad."
Another wrote: "I'd loose every single one of my marbles if my husband spent our money on this." And a third added: "And it's never two single people in these situations."
A fourth remarked: "Wow that's awful" And another sarcastically wrote: "Why not just make an 'affair partner' card." Some even went as far as calling the card "disgusting".
Despite the backlash, others didn't think the cards were disrespectful. A TikTok user said: "I legit don't see the problem. I have a work wife and work husband, then a real husband."
Another wrote: "Oh come on that's funny and yes I am married! My husband got us similar cards last year to give to our respective 'work wife' and 'work husband' glad to see they are back this year!"
