Central Cee has firmly pitched his flag atop of UK rapâs mountain. After grinding for a decade, his rise seemed instant with 2020âs viral smashes âLoadingâ and âDay in the Lifeâ, but the Shepherdâs Bush prodigy turned fleeting virality into a record-breaking career. Still independent, heâs now dropped his debut album âCanât Rush Greatnessâ, straddling the line between defiant confidence and raw self-reflection. Cench peels back the persona to take us on a rare, earnest journey of self-discovery to prove why âpractice makes perfect / Iâm just scratching the surfaceâ.
âCanât Rush Greatnessâ begins with a collection of cocksure tracks as he defiantly defends his title as UK rapâs frontman. While reflecting on his rapid rise, heâs bashful and cocky about his success â and even brings in other rappers to boast about the fruits of the grind. Cench and 21 Savage are menacing overlords on the mafioso-style âGBPâ, and he goes toe-to-toe with grime legend Skepta on the feverish Chicago drill-like âTenâ: âWeâre the ones putting on west [London], not them / They got more money than senseâ.
But all this peacocking feels like a facade as the album progresses. We witness a rare sight: Cench getting introspective. âTop Freestyleâ sees him unveil his thoughts on the rap industry (âlabel execs donât care if weâre murderers, as long as your catalogue brings in revenueâ), and he gets candid about the heights of fame with Dave on âCRGâ. Mixing sombre piano with jumpy baile funk, Dave asks God: âwhy bless me if Iâm a sinner?â while Cench acknowledges: âIâm in pain, but Iâm not blaming / Iâm just sayingâ.
Cench isnât just lyrically expanding; heâs diversifying his sound, too. While opening up about his notorious relationship with content creator Madeline Argy, âNow Weâre Strangersâ easily proves Cench is âmore than drillâ. Bolstered by singer-songwriter Kamalâs velvety vocals and a featherlight guitar strum, the song is easily the rapperâs most earnest ode to love.
AdvertisementTowards the end of the record, Cench partially retreats to his braggadocious ways on âWalk-in Wardrobeâ and âMust Beâ â but not for long. âDonât Know Anymoreâ proves that we are dealing with a different person altogether. No longer flashy and overconfident, the rapper self-evaluates â something that feels so alien in drill. He shares his flaws and gives goals on how he can work on himself in hopes of breaking the cycle for someone else like how music did for him: âTell the youngers, âStay in schoolâ, but I wouldnât be here if I followed the law.â
Yes, some duds should have been left off the album (âGen Z Luvâ, âTruth In The Liesâ, and even smash hit âBAND4BANDâ), but itâs still worth the wait. Central Cee could easily remain hidden behind his signature mystique, but instead tells the story of a boy turned man all while on the worldâs stage. No smoke and mirrors, the album is authentically Cench every step of the way.

With just one episode left to go, the drama’s leads took a nostalgic look back at filming and spoke fondly about what the series meant to them.
Lim Ji Yeon shared, “Even as I was playing Ok Tae Young, I found myself rooting for her. Because she’s a character for whom I felt deep affection, I think [playing her] was all the more special.”
She also expressed her gratitude to the show’s viewers, noting, “More people became invested in Ok Tae Young’s life than I’d expected, which surprised me. Many people gave me warm reviews that became a source of strength for me, so I was happy each and every day while the drama was airing.”
“I’m grateful that I was able to start 2025 while receiving love from so many people,” she continued, “and I think I’ve gained the motivation that will be my driving force as I live out this new year. I wish all of you lots of good fortune in the new year.”
Choo Young Woo commented, “While preparing for this drama, I went through many experiences that I will remember for a long time. Thanks to the admirable character of Seung Hwi, I think I was able to receive lots of interest.”
He went on, “I would like to once again thank the director for trusting me with this role, and because everyone [who worked on the drama] spent so much time pondering it and poured so much love into it, I’m truly happy that the drama ended up receiving lots of love from many people. I hope the drama will remain in viewers’ hearts as a warm memory.”
Kim Jae Won humbly remarked, “Each and every moment that I lived as Do Gyeom was a precious time that allowed me to grow as an actor.”
“I hope that the new year is full of only health and happiness for you all,” he continued, “and no matter what ups and downs come your way, I hope you will overcome them wisely, just like Ok Tae Young, Cheon Seung Hwi, Sung Do Gyeom, and Cha Mi Ryeong of the Sung family.”
Finally, Yeonwoo said, “Because ‘The Tale of Lady Ok’ was my first historical drama, I was very nervous and anxious, but thanks to all of my co-stars, I learned a lot and had a really great experience, so I think I’ll remember it for a long time.”
She concluded, “It was truly an honor to be part of such a great drama, and I’m truly grateful to all of the viewers who gave us love.”
