The Moment is based on an original idea from Charli
A24 is building its own Brat pack: Charli XCX will produce and star in The Moment, the feature directorial debut from photographer Aidan Zamiri with a score from A.G. Cook.
Charli developed the original idea the film is based on, which was adapted into a screenplay by Zamiri and Bertie Brandes. The Moment will be produced through the musicianâs production company Studio365, marking its first major project. David Hinojosaâs production company 2AM is also attached.
Last year, Charli told Billboard she had three weeks booked off to work on writing a film in Poland. She wouldnât share who she was working with at the time. âWell, I donât really know if I should say because I also donât know if weâre going to do it,â she said. âWe might actually just go to Poland and not do that, but that is the idea.â
She explained that the film, should it come to fruition, would take place in Poland. âWe would write it and shoot it at the same time, kind of like making an album,â Charli explained. âOne of the guys is the director â he works that way all the time.â She was likely referring to Zamiri, who has a reputation for working quickly. He previously directed music videos for the Brat singles â360â and âGuessâ featuring Billie Eilish, which Eilish told Vanity Fair was edited and released within days of shooting (Zamiri directed her âBirds of a Featherâ video, too).
Charliâs cinephile side took over social media for a few days after fans discovered her Letterboxd account. The discovery revealed reviews of Moneyball (âThis isnât for British peopleâ), A Complete Unknown (âThere were a lot of songs in thisâ), and Challengers (âWas so amped after watching this I ended up going out til 5amâ), among more than 200 others.
