A child out sledding in the snow with their grandmother fell into a frozen pond when they slid down a hill and into the water and later died in hospital.
Police and fire crews were called at around 9.15pm on Saturday and discovered a youngster in the water. They were rushed to hospital but, tragically, succumbed to the effects from being submerged in the subzero water.
A neighbour told WFMY News a family of a grandmother and a mother were out sledding when one of the children slid down a hill. Unable to stop, they went into the water at Stoney Creek Golf Club.

Last month an 18-year-old student was killed in a tragic tubing accident while out playing in the snow. Kirsten Beagley, 18, was with her friends on January 20 at a popular sledding hill at the Cleveland Reservoir area of Huntington Canyon when her tube hit a bump and Kirsten was thrown onto the road. She was knocked unconscious and never woke up, MirrorUS reported.
Sheriff Tyson Huntington told KSL TV: “It was nothing they did wrong or anything. They’re just tubing down that hill and went too fast and went over the first snowbank and onto the asphalt." Kirsten was with a group of four couples as part of the Emery High School’s winter formal.
