Vampire movies and TV shows are bit past their heyday, but that’s not stopping a possible reboot of one of the biggest hits of the genre.
Entertainment Weekly reports that actress Sarah Michelle Gellar is in talks to appear in a reboot of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” the TV series in which she starred from 1997 to 2003. The new series would be shown on Hulu.
Gellar would not be the main star, however. Variety reports that Gellar would have a recurring role, but a reboot would focus on a new vampire slayer.
Nora Zuckerman and Lilla Zuckerman are the executive producers for the new series, EW reports. Chloé Zhao would be the director.
It’s unclear if other stars from the original series would appear in the reboot, such as Alyson Hannigan, Seth Green and Eliza Dushku. Deadline reports Gellar had been opposed to a reboot as recently as 2023, but became more open to the idea in 2024 after seeing successful reboots of other series.
The TV series is based on the 1992 film of the same name, which starred Kristy Swanson in the title role, along with Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, Rutger Hauer, Hilary Swank, Stephen Root and Luke Perry.
