Just when you thought Coach’s iconic, standard-setting Tabby couldn’t get more refined, it did just that. At the household-name fashion house’s fall 2025 ready-to-wear show this year — which took place at the Park Avenue Armory and paid homage to the late filmmaker David Lynch — front-row invitees were seen carrying a new iteration of the Tabby handbag, made for nights on the town and making a statement during everyday errand runs. Snuggled under the armpits of many an A-Lister was the Coach Chain Tabby Shoulder Bag, a roomier version of the classic Tabby that provides instant flair via its silver or gold chain hardware.
It’s clear that many devotees of everything Coach are attracted to this hardware — something that we’ve already witnessed with the boom of the chain-bedecked Coach Times Square Tabby last year. Coach’s latest bag arrival is also a rare bird in that it offers a bit of slouch and a subsequent departure from the traditional Tabby’s rectilinear shape. This relaxed silhouette feels more comfortable under the arm and thus offers just the easy-breezy bag moment you’re seeking for spring.

Available in three sizes — all of which are larger than the traditional Tabby bag — Coach’s Chain Tabby Shoulder Bags can accommodate plenty of your daily essentials inside (think your current read, red lipstick, moisturizer for combatting end-of-winter dryness, and related goodies). Because the smaller iterations of the classic Coach Tabby bag are historically the quickest to sell out, we expect the Chain Tabby’s small and medium iterations will be the first to fly off the virtual shelves. That’s not to say that the largest variation, the Coach Chain Tabby Shoulder Bag 35, is not worth your time and money. It’s simply more reminiscent of a satchel bag and, with plenty of capacity for a laptop and more, is fit for pursuits beyond a quick city walk.

Additionally, each of their three straps (chain included) is detachable, thereby guaranteeing seamless switching between crossbody, in-the-hand, or over-the-shoulder wear.
Historically speaking, Coach’s colorway offerings don’t miss, and this time is no exception. The chain bags’ smallest size provides the widest range of hues: from the classic Chalk and Black to the more spring-forward Sage and Blush. Despite this diversity, we’re banking on the fact that Honey Brown will be the first hue to go (the tone mimics that of the Brooklyn suede bags that couldn’t stay in stock last fall, while also falling in line with 2025’s Pantone Color of the Year).
This is not the first time we’re seeing Coach emphasize chains on the runway: During last September’s New York Fashion Week show hosted by the brand, models strutted by with chain bags, many of which were accessorized with Coach’s famed charms and artful scribbles reminiscent of a Jean Michel Basquiat painting.

Courtesy Victor Virgile/Gamma-Rapho/Getty ImagesThis year, the Coach runway’s front row proved to be a more salient place for finding the freshly released Coach Chain Tabby Shoulder Bag… as well as for obtaining inspiration on how to style it. Show attendees teamed the bags with everything from blazer-and-pants sets to minidresses. In whichever way it appeared, one thing was clear: The Chain Tabby Shoulder Bag made a definitive entry into Coach’s collection and will likely fly off shelves sooner than you can say “bag charm.”
On that note, Coach also recently dropped never-before-seen charms that will help you “Jane Birkin-ify” your newest acquisition in the manner that everyone on TikTok is doing right now. Taking a true “more is more” approach, we recommend you layer on the whimsical Mushroom Bag Charm, Heart Bag Charm (a romantic-as-can-be accessory just in time for Valentine’s Day!), and Snail Bag Charm that might just inspire you to take it slow whilst treating yourself. Many new charm releases have already sold out, so if that doesn’t convince you to drop everything and shop at Coach today, we don’t know what will.
As Rihanna once sang, “chains and whips excite me.” Switch whips to on-trend colorways and supple soft-grain leather and you’ve got yourself the Coach Chain Tabby Shoulder Bag: an absolute must for refreshing your style before spring arrives.
