Competing with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on social media? Prince William and Kate Middleton arenât up for it. A commentator says the Prince and Princess of Wales have no interest in facing off with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex online.Â
The Duchess of Sussex started 2025 by returning to Instagram. On Jan. 1, 2025, Meghan posted a Reel of herself writing â2025â in the sand at the beach near her and Prince Harryâs home in Montecito, Calif., to her @meghan account.Â
The video clip, reportedly filmed by the Duke of Sussex, 40, marked Meghanâs first big splash on social media after closing her personal Instagram account in January 2018. Her @meghan handle sat dormant for approximately 2.5 years before the former Suits starâs post confirmed she was behind it.Â
Meghan quickly followed it up with another post on Jan. 2, 2025, sharing the trailer for her upcoming Netflix show, With Love, Meghan. Later, she shared a personal update with her followers, revealing her beloved dogâs death.  Â
At the time of writing, William and Kate arenât following Meghan on social media. (Theyâre official Instagram account is @princeandprincessofwales.) As for Harry and Meghanâs joint Instagram, @SussexRoyal, it hasnât been updated since 2020.
Harry and Meghan, who? Thatâs pretty much what William and Kateâs attitudes are toward the California-based royals, according to commentator Richard Fitzwilliams.Â
âThe last thing that William and Kate are interested in just at this moment are the activities of the Sussexes,â he told GB News. As for keeping tabs on Meghanâs new Instagram account, âfollowing Meghan on Instagram may have been possible, but theyâre not in competition with the Sussexes.âÂ
âItâs perfectly true that the Sussexes do attract enormous publicity,â the commentator explained. However, âin terms of Kate and William and what they do, I donât think thereâs an overlap there.â Hence no Sussex vs. Wales competition.Â

Besides raising young childrenâthe future king and queen are parents of three and the Sussexes are parents of twoâtheyâre focused on the U.K. (William and Kate) and the U.S. (Harry and Meghan).Â
As the future of the monarchy, William and Kate are busy carving out their places within the royal family. Williamâs got the Earthshot Prize and his initiative to fight homelessness just to name a few. Meanwhile, Kate has a long history of working on child development.Â
Last year saw the two focus on Kateâs health after she announced sheâd been diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in March 2024. Now in remission, Kate is slowly amping up royal duties.Â
As for Harry and Meghan, they are nearly five years removed from leaving the U.K. to relocate to California. (They officially left in March 2020.) The pair have inked media deals, and dissolved some (Spotify and âArchetypesâ), in addition to having charities and initiatives of their own.Â
The Invictus Games continue to be a major event on Harryâs calendar. (He and Meghan are expected at the Winter Games in Canada come February 2025.) They also executive produced Polo for Netflix to underwhelming reviews in late 2024. Next up is With Love, Meghan, which premieres in March 2025.Â
