Corre: Claire Sweeney defends her character's actions
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Coronation Street.
Coronation Street’s Claire Sweeney has tried to defend her character’s villainous actions as she attempts to “bump off” Ken Barlow.
Ex-drug addict Cassie Plummer (played by Claire Sweeney) has caused a lot of problems since arriving in Weatherfield and is up to no good once again, taking it to a whole new level.
Cassie has been acting as Ken Barlow’s (William Roach) carer since suffering a fall with the pair becoming good friends in recent months.
But little does Ken know that Cassie is planning on fleecing the pensioner for money and has started slipping crushed up tablets into his drinks.
Claire appeared on Alan Titchmarsh’s Love Your Weekend on Sunday, 16th March, where the actress tried to defend Cassie’s actions.

ITV)After showing a clip from the iconic ITV drama, Alan remarked: “Little does he [Ken] know what’s in his cup!”
She replied: “I know, I’m the smiling assassin there, aren’t I? I mean, Ken Barlow, a national treasure!”
“And you to bump him off Claire,” Alan remarked before the 53-year-old began her attempt in justifying what was happening in the show.
“Well, do you know what, I mean, you can’t soften it can you when you’re spiking a national treasure’s cup of tea.
“But that was a tablet there and then I go on to [use] antihistamines with him.”
Alan Titchmarsh jokingly moved his cup of tea away from actress Claire Sweeney as she tried to justify her Coronation Street character poisoning Ken Barlow. (Image:
ITV)Alan gasped “gosh” as Claire continued: “So it’s just really to keep him a little bit sleepy so he needs me. That’s what it is.”
Sliding his cup out of Sweeney’s reach, the presenter laughed: “I’m just going to put my tea out of your way!”
At the end of the interview, Alan tried to not-so subtly find out what Claire knew about what’s going to happen to Ken.
“I don’t know whether you’ll be bumping anybody else off or succeed in bumping Ken and I don’t suppose you know either and if you did, you wouldn’t tell me would you?”
Unfortunately for fans, the star admitted: “I don’t know. Surprise a minute isn’t it?”
So could this really be the end for Ken or is Claire going to be found out and get her comeuppance?
Coronation Street is available to watch on ITV and ITVX.
