Coronation Street fans were left making the same comment as James Bailey returned to Weatherfield following his exit two years ago - and they think they have worked out why he is back.

Fans of the ITV soap will recall that James is the youngest son of Ed and Aggie Bailey and brother of Michael and Dee-Dee. Ed, Aggie and their two sons first arrived on the Street back in 2019 before Ed's brother, Ronnie, followed in 2021.

It wasn't until 2022 that Corrie viewers got to meet the much-talked-about Dee-Dee, the hot-shot solicitor who had been living and working in America.

James was the star within the family as he was a promising footballer for Weatherfield Country. But the sportsman collapsed while playing a local match with the Rovers Return team and was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, causing him to be dropped from the squad.

He then took a job as a coach at a youth centre in Lewisham, leading to his exit from Weatherfield. But it was during Monday night's (March 17) Corrie that James returned to the Cobbles, with Ed involved in him coming back during his sister Dee-Dee's pregnancy.

Dee-Dee and Ronnie were delighted when Ed revealed James was back, and the guest asked if he could stay at Dee-Dee's flat for a few nights, and she agreed.

James soon revealed that he was waiting to hear if he had secured a coaching job in the US, but the family catch-up was cut short when Lauren Bolton called Dee-Dee back to the hospital, where she revealed that doctors had found a matching donor for her son Frankie, so his transplant could go ahead much sooner than they expected.

This meant that Dee-Dee's baby would no longer be needed to save Frankie's life, and Lauren felt guilty knowing that Dee-Dee had only continued with her pregnancy, having found out she was pregnant with groomer Joel Deering's baby before his death, in order to help Frankie.

Dee-Dee masked her upset and once back at home, Dee-Dee told James that the thought of helping Frankie had felt like a purpose, and now that it wasn't happening, she felt lost with what was ahead of her.

James urged Dee-Dee to wait it out before revealing that he had been offered the job in the States. Later, he took a call from Danny, telling him that he hadn't mentioned a mystery secret to his sister yet.

And Corrie fans have been quick to share what they think it is. @SouthernCazza1 said: "James and Danny want to adopt Dee Dee's baby and take the baby to USA with them #Corrie." @ShirleyaCook asked: "Is James and his partner going to bring up the baby ?#corrie."

@RyanTheSoapking shared: "I think James will adopt Dee Dee's baby #Corrie." Kaz Ward added on Facebook: "I think him and his partner Dan are wanting to adopt Dee Dees baby."

Others, however, were distracted that James has come back with a new face, with the character being recast and is now played by Jason Callender.

Master John Yorky wrote on Facebook: "James Bailey, is back, and the family haven’t even noticed it’s not the same bloke." Robin Stevens added: "Thats not James.. thats definitely a different actor playing his part!"
