LOS ANGELES, California â âBack to the Futureâ was a massive hit in 1985, leading to two very popular sequels, the last released in 1990.
Hollywood is never shy about revisiting a hit franchise. So it only makes sense to make a fourth movie, right?
âF--- you,â says Bob Gale, the writer and producer of the original trilogy with co-creator Robert Zemeckis.
Variety reports Gale gave his very blunt response about writing a fourth âBack to the Futureâ film while backstage at the Saturn Awards. Gale received the George Pal Memorial Award.
âPeople always say, âWhen are you going to do âBack to the Future 4Ⲡand we say, âF--- you,ââ Gale said, according to Yahoo!
Gale notes that itâs not like âBack to the Futureâ has faded into the background over the decades. Itâs been turned into a live stage performance (it was in Cleveland last summer) which soon will be performed on a cruise ship for Royal Caribbean Cruises.
âSo, my God, âBack to the Future,â Iâm going to be doing it for the rest of my life,â Gale said.
The first film starred Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson. Fox portrayed Marty McFly, a 17-year-old student who is accidentally sent 30 years backward to 1955 by a DeLorean time machine invented by his pal Doc Brown (Lloyd). While in 1955, he bumps into his mother (Thompson) and father, causing problems for his future.
The movie grossed $385 million worldwide. âBack to the Future Part II,âł released in 1989, grossed $332.8 million worldwide, while âBack to the Future Part III,â released in 1990, grossed $245 million.
