Creed 4: Michael B. Jordan Reassures Another Movie But Has One Major Condition For When He Plans To Make It
Michael B. Jordan has one condition for Creed 4.
Creed star Michael B. Jordan has revealed that he would be interested in making Creed 4, but he has a critical condition for when he plans to make it. Jordan gained acclaim in the role of troubled but talented boxer Adonis "Donnie" Creed in the Rocky film series spinoff Creed, which was released in 2015. The success of the film spawned two further sequels, with Jordan also producing and directing the most recent installment, 2023's Creed III, which became the highest-grossing entry in the series. Though the series looked to have concluded, Creed III left scope to revisit the franchise.
Now, in an interview with GQ, the Fruitvale Station actor reveals that he would like to revisit the franchise for a fourth movie, and that he believes the conclusion of the third film left the door open to build on the franchise, and revisit it. However, the Black Panther star was also keen to state that he plans to wait a while, and is not interested in making another Creed movie for the sake of it, stating that he wants to "make people want it, miss it a little bit." Check out Jordan's comments below:
Yeah, the fourth one, eventually, not sure when, but we left that door open to build on that franchise. My thing is like, I don't wanna make a movie just to make it, give it a little time to breathe, make people want it, miss it a little bit. And when the time is right, I'll drop in and do another one.
The success of the Creed movies means there is certainly an audience for the character, but Jordan's comments show he doesn't want to rush things. Donnie's story feels like it's reached a natural conclusion now, but that doesn't mean there aren't other avenues to explore in the coming years. The Rocky franchise was successfully resurrected by Sylvester Stallone years later, and worked when telling the story of an elderly Rocky unsure of his place in an ever-changing world, and Jordan's experience working with Stallone in the first two Creed movies will help a lot with the franchise in the future.
I would expect the Creed franchise to be put on hold for a while, ready to be revisited years later.
It feels like a resurrection or revival of the Creed franchise some years down the road could be the play, in a similar vein to what Rocky Balboa managed to do, picking up with Donnie and his family, and perhaps even having him train his successor. It feels like Jordan has a plan for the direction of the series, but is looking to take a break, focus on other projects, and return when he feels the time is right, and there is a story worth telling. This approach has stood the Rocky franchise in good stead over the years, and the same should be true here.
Our Verdict On The Chances of Creed 4 HappeningA Fourth Installment Seems Definite, But Expect A Long Hiatus
Jordan is one of the most interesting actors in Hollywood, and with his recent venture into directing, could be spending more time behind the camera too. His career is evolving, and he's likely to want to try new projects, and push himself as a performer. This means I would expect the Creed franchise to be put on hold for a while, ready to be revisited years later. Making Creed 4 could be used to mark a career renaissance for Jordan in the years to come, or as a strong entry in a compelling and ever-growing filmography.
