But Abbott Elementary, The Penguin, Hacks, The Diplomat, Disclaimer and What We Do in the Shadows followed closely behind the period piece, each receiving four nominations ahead of the big night.
And this year's Critics Choice Awards was a milestone occasion. Not only was it the star-studded event's 30th anniversary, but it also marked Chelsea Handler's third consecutive time hosting.

"Returning for the third year to host the Critics Choice Awards has been made even sweeter knowing it will now air on E!," the Chelsea Lately alum shared in a statement prior to the ceremony. "I feel like I’m returning to my birthplace."
And during her opening monologue, Chelsea also made a self-deprecating joke about her three-peat, saying it was her "second-longest relationship."
"I was the only woman hosting a late night show and now, 11 years later, look how far we've come," she quipped. "In 2025, the easiest way to get a late night talk show as a woman is to have the creators of Hacks write a fictional story about it."

MBC’s “Motel California” has shared a glimpse of a heartbreaking moment from its next episode!
Based on Shim Yoon Seo’s 2019 novel “Home, Bitter Home,” “Motel California” is a romance drama about a woman named Ji Kang Hee (Lee Se Young), who was born and raised in a rural motel called Motel California. After escaping her hometown, she returns home after 12 years and winds up reconnecting with her first love and childhood friend Cheon Yeon Soo (Na In Woo).
Spoilers
On the previous episode of “Motel California,” Ji Kang Hee and Cheon Yeon Soo’s love for one another grew stronger as they began to correct the misunderstandings that surrounded them. However, they were surprised and troubled when Kang Hee’s father opposed their relationship—and they decided to go on a nighttime drive to Seoul to get some fresh air. On the way, Kang Hee hallucinated a vision of a car accident involving her mother before losing consciousness, and the episode ended with a worried Yeon Soo rushing her to the emergency room.
In newly released stills from the drama’s upcoming episode, the sweet, blissful vibe that Kang Hee and Yeon Soo exuded in the previous episode is nowhere to be found. Instead, both of them have tears in their eyes as they gaze sadly at one another, and Yeon Soo looks crushed by both sorrow and shock.
The visible pain in both characters’ eyes raises the question of what could have happened to the couple—and where this unhappy late-night conversation will lead them.
“In Episode 10, the full story behind Kang Hee’s shocking car-accident hallucination will be revealed, leading to a huge whirlwind in not only Kang Hee and Yeon Soo’s relationship but also the entire plot,” teased the drama’s production team. “Please give lots of interest to ‘Motel California,’ which is racing towards its climax.”
The next episode of “Motel California” will air on February 8 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
In the meantime, catch up on all the previous episodes of the drama on Viki below!
